About Me

I'm a singer-songwriter, a native of South Oxfordshire, an underweight skinhead and a Doctor Who obssessive. I sometimes play solo and I sometimes play as part of a band with New Moon bassist Jules and former Sexy Breakfast drummer Darren. I released an album, 'Songs from Number 18', in 2002. I used to play bass and sing in Passion Play (now relocated to Germany) and sang and played with many local bands (Nomen Luni, Jab, Southern Sky, The Dodz, The New Moon and for one song only, Redox).I regularly play bass guitar for celebrated musical maverick Twizz Twangle and occasionally for the Gs, an eclectic musical collective. I'm also delighted to be playing with the divine Su Jordan (Inflatable Buddha, The Cliffhangers, Anton Barbeau). I sometimes play lead guitar in a duo with local blues maestro Steve Morris. I promote the occasional gig in Oxford.

John Martyn

Skittle Alley Assortment: King's Head & Bell, Abingdon 4.8.07

This could be the nearest thing that I, a habitual non drinker, have to a local. The music is run, through a haze of alcohol and general hedonism, by the shadowy collective that is known as the Skittl...

Avant Garde Pub Rock: Twizz Twangle/Nameless at the General Elliott 29.6.07

The General Elliott is a bit out of the way. It's a gig where we've felt short changed before but under a previous regime it actually had a Twizz Twangle fan club. There used to be Twizz Twangle T-sh...

Charlbury Riverside Festival, Sunday 17.6.07

Arrived on my own in a more melancholic state of mind. Again I mostly patronised the Beard Museum Stage. MaybiJay I don't remember anything about this act. My notes say: six-piece, bland AOR, magic m...

Charlbury Riverside Festival 16/6/07

Charlbury Riverside Festival is like a secret society; the chaps who run it idealistically believe that festivals should be free and their festival is. They hardly publicise it as too many punters wo...

A Bit Like Klub Kakoffany Without Drums: Lagrima/Twizz Twangle/Mark Bosley, Port Mahon 12.6.07

This was one of the many regular Tuesday night gigs I promoted at the Port Mahon. I get stressed about them because I can never tell if there'll be an audience and any money to pay the bands at the e...

Goodbye Bermuda Hello Blighty/Jericho Street Fair/Skittle Alley Blues (Steve Morris) 5-9.6.07

So there it was, a curious non-meeting with Stella, a last sentimental bike ride round Devonshire Bay and Ariel Sands, a final visit from the faithful Dennis bearing a CD of songs and sketches, and i...

Bermudian Short Story7: More Island Life/Chewstick (Slight Return)

One day I took a bus to Gibb's Hill Lighthouse.  Up on the top the view was terrific as was the relief from Bermuda's incredible humidity.  I befriended a cat and had a cup of rosehip and hi...
