WHAT MAKES BBC / HANGTIME ?DranoHip-hop has evolved into a diverse group of sub-generes over the years. The newest of these to emerge has been Southern Rap. And even though New Orleans, Memphis and St. Louis have taken shots of reigning at the top, right now Atlanta is the city that everyone is craving. And from that we have DAndre Marshon Harris also known as Drano.Born in Chicago, but then immediately relocated to Atlanta, hes lived nearly his entire life in living, breathing, and enjoying his days Georgia. In fact he claims his mother and father as his inspirations for hip hop. He says that his parents used to take him to Jelly Bean skating rink (near Greenbriar) and thats when he was first introduced to hip hop through dance. He did his best to tour the local Atlanta scene, and one day while performing at Club Atrium he was spotted by Rochelle of Untouched Entertainment. Theyve been together ever since.Even while dancing, he started writing music. In 1999 he first started to write R&B songs, and eventually perfected that craft. Then once hed broken that barrier he decided to write raps informally. I first approached music trying to sing, after he went to the studio he realized that he didnt like it. That experience taught him that he might want to focus on rapping. So he kept working at rapping, while still dancing, and writing, doing as much as he could to challenge anyone who wanted to take a listen. In 2002 he decided to take on rap as his new hobby.
As far as entertainers that have had an influence on him, he credits Ludacris, Andre 3000, 8ball and MJG, Youngbloodz, Fabolous, and T.I. Unlike most of his peers he wasnt nurtured off of Old School legends. Some might see this as a lack of understanding his musical history, but I think it strengthens him, it allows him to easily mold himself into current trends as opposed to modeling his style after his forefathers.
Look forward to hearing more from Drano, he expects an extensive musical career before him, so youll hear from him soon.Refah StrohsThis artist Jaison Hayden stepped upon the scene in his early ages. HE was born in Pittsburgh Pa, but moved to Atlanta Georgia when he was 9 years of age. He got his stage name (Refah Strolhs) from his father who actually wanted to name him Refah Strohs when he was born because he used to smoke refah and drink strohs beer, but naturally his mother wouldnt let it be.
The 24 year old grew up on old school and new school hip hop acts such as Dougie Fresh (Refahs favorite rapper), Kwame, Snoop Dogg, Easy E, Ice Cube, Slick Rick, Biggie Smalls, and of course 2Pac. As far current artists hes influenced by Ludacris, Chamillionaire and the color changing clique, Pall Wall and many more.Performed at The Riveriera in Tennessee, won crowd pleaser at Club Atrium in Decatur Georgia, and once opened for Epic Recording artist Baby D. He also did a collaboration with Sash Meade and Drano entitled Straighten Up Cuz and another with Alleypat entitled Show me what you workin with all of which are artists in the Untouched Entertainment camp. This wise young man plans to open up his own Body Collision Repair Shop and Laundromats in different neighborhoods. Refah Strohs has plans to put back into the community. Currently he is working on his solo album entitled Broke Ballin but until thats released he will continue rockin the mic spittin lyrics worth listening to.
