DJ Daddyo has been spinning for over 18 years and never ceases to amaze those who witness his gift, when they attend the functions and clubs where he works his magic.
Rafael Melendez Jr., also known as the magnanimous “DJ Daddyo,†was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, and was raised by his mom and dad alongside his brother Stephen and their sister Betsy. As a child, long before he would become DJ Daddyo, young Rafael was always moved by the music that was played at the family home, relative's parties and even at the neighborhood church. He began to play the drums when he was 8 years old. He was always playing the drums in his basement to practice his passion, and then he would participate during church services to proliferate his inherent talent. By the age of 9, Rafael had mastered his beloved candy apple red Yamaha drum set, which had been given to him by his father, Rafael Melendez Sr. He could instantly decipher a coded rhythm, and he started recognizing different drum patterns and cadences. This became the foundation for his success, and would ultimately lead him in the direction of his current expertise.
At the age of 14, DJ Daddyo donned his first pair of head phones, which started him off on his illustrious DJ career. Inspired by his cousins Eddie Miranda and Angel Padilla, DJ Daddyo learned new techniques. He listened intently and watched his mentors spin vinyl during practices in basements, and while they performed at house parties.
When he was all of about 16 years old, DJ Daddyo threw his first party at “The Pepino's Club†in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The audience was amazed by his skillfulness, and so, the word spread about the phenomenal young DJ. Everyone in the neighborhood wanted to hire DJ Daddyo for private parties and various other types of public functions.
About the time he was 18 years old, DJ Daddyo wanted more for himself. He sought to develop his musical talent and production skills, so he started going to the famous, or infamous, clubs of the New York City scene, including Heart Throbs, Studio 54, Roseland, The Tunnel, 1018, Redlines, Octagon, The Limelight, and The Palladium. This was it! He was hearing different types of music and rhythms and he was meeting legendary Dee-Jays like Little Louie Vega, Jelly Bean Benitez, Ralph Mercado, Baby J, Frankie Cutlass, in addition to other celebrated Dee-Jays from around the world.
Armed with a lifetime of knowledge and consistently experiencing and perpetuating a new appreciation for the craft, DJ Daddyo started putting his own music patterns together, and today this makes him one of the best blend mixers around. Re-mixing freestyle, with club and hip hop, DJ Daddyo has made a name for himself, and his abilities leave his mark of excellence where ever he stands.
DJ Daddyo embraced the title “Wizard of Sound,†given to him by his cousin Angel Padilla, and everyday DJ Daddyo keeps the promise he made; that this title will be heard all over the world. DJ Daddyo specializes in Hip-hop, R&B, classic house, techno, Baltimore club, Freestyle, Salsa, Merengue, Bachata and his favorite, Reggaeton.
My dearest daddy 'I love you', I think of you each day. I feel your arms around me, that's how I get through my days.
Your looking down upon me, to guide me on my way, but its very hard without you, each and every day.
people always tell me, the grieving will subside. But how can it get better, without you by my side.
no matter how hard they try, to help me with this pain, I am all consumed by thinking, It will never be the same.
I know one day we'll meet, in the Heavens up above. It's the one thing that helps me, to never forget your love.
My dearest Daddy, I love you, Your with me every day. I will keep this love within me, until that beautiful day...
