Marques Walls

Marques Walls is a young yet accomplished musician who hails from Philadelphia PA. He has been playing the drums since the age of 12. "I have a lot of family members who play drums" he says. "It's kind of like the family business. It was almost inevitable that I be a drummer too".Walls attended Kutztown University majoring in Music Performance but left Kutztown when he was fortunate enough to earn a spot in the National Tour of RENT. Upon auditioning for the position, Walls was told by Tim Weil, the (former) musical supervisor and arranger for the production that "this is the first time I auditioned someone who knows the music better than me".Walls' ever growing list of achievements includes various music scholarships, performing with the Philadelphia All City Orchestra, Percussion Ensemble, and Jazz Orchestra. Walls has often been told that his drumming style invites people to not only listen to his music, but to think about what he is playing. Growing up surrounded by musicians, his most memorable music experience was going to an outdoor funk gig with his drum teacher, Leon Jordan, where he decided that playing was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. Walls not only enjoys playing music but teaching it as well. His goal throughout his career is to "keep music alive in schools".Today, you can find him onstage drumming for Broadway's 1st National Tour of the musical Spring Awakening.   "Music makes everything better." -Marques Walls
