Anyone who's down, and of course anyone who can discuss music on an intellectual or emotional way.. Uhm. Bobo Fraggle. Douglas Adams.Wash [Stegosaurus to T-Rex]: Yes... yes.. this is a fertile land and we will thrive... We will rule over all this land, and we will call it.........this land. [T-Rex]: I think we should call it.. Your GRAVE! [Stegosaurus]: Ahhh! Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal! [T-Rex] Ah ha ha! Mine is an evil land... NOW DIE! [Stegosaurus]: Arrrggghhh... [T-Rex]: RAWRRR!.. [Stegosaurus]: Oh no god! ... [T-Rex]: RAWWWR!...[Chomping noises] [Stegosaurus] Oh dear god in heaven!
People, I think, need to get in touch with their creative sides, if only for their own pleasure and entertainment, if only to understand what goes into creative works. Putting you're heart out on a page, in a song, in a picture, or on a canvas can be a scary thing. It can also be a wonderful thing. I think everyone owes it to themselves to experience that fragility, that vunerablity. Music is often presented as entertainment... and much of it is entertaining... but most of that is not just entertainment. The words of Sublime, of Bob Marley, of Rage Against the Machine, and of many many others are prime examples of people who entertain, but also heal. Their intent is to reach a higher understanding collectivley through music. Through Expression. I think there is no personal higher calling in life, no other thing more worth while. We are only here for a small amount of time. But the things we create, those things are immortal.. and will touch and teach people long after we are just ashes and dust.
Everything from Kubric to Kurasawa... I really love movies from a lot of different perspectives.. from artistic independent films to horrible B movies (and more often now big budget movies) that are so bad they make you laugh. To name some favorites: The Last Unicorn, Amelie, Seven Samurai, Dr. Strangelove, Akira, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (Hunter S. Thompson + Mr. Depp = phenomenal), Any Muppet movie, Legend, Surviving Nuclear Attack: Keep it safe, Keep it clean (late 1950's documentary by US Gov.), What's up TigerLilly?, just about any pirate theme'd movie, hmm and soo soo soo much more, that's just off the top of my head.
The Daily Show, MXC, and Fraggle Rock. If you don't know what Fraggle Rock is---- 1. Shame on you, go get yourself some.------ 2. It's not on TV anymore, so don't check the TV guide, just weep with me uncontrolably until they put it back on. Adult Swim, Anime (film or tele).. any cooking/history/science show.
Guns Germs and Steel, The true story of the Armada, Zen Parables, Enders Game, Silent Stream, anything by Bill (Shakespeare) like "The Tempest" "Hamlet", "A Midsummers night dream", and on and on.. especially his sonnets, Issac Asimov, any of his social critiques like "Caliban", and his short stories... wayyy good, and of course, a book everyone... everyone.. should read.. "Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman" By Richard P. Feynman. "The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams.. and any short story by James Joyce or Ray Bradbury.
