James “Poet†WoodertSinger, musician, songwriter, poetBorn: January 3, 1983Birthplace: Fayetteville, NCAs a child, Poet always had a drive and aspirations to become a singer. As early as elementary school, he performed in different choral events and county wide functions exhibiting his natural gift. (Seasonal Events & City competitions). Throughout grade school, he studied music and performed in talent shows and radio competitions. Some of his influences are Eric Benet, Donny Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, and Carl Thomas. Poet has opened up for many artists such as, Destiny’s Child, Mario, Floetry, Jill Scott, Raheem Devaughn, the Clipse, and the list goes on.As Poet got older, he decided to branch out into other forms of entertainment such as dance. He joined a hip hop dance team called “Premiere†where the team focused on break dance and pop locking techniques in their choreography. The dance troupe did half time shows at athletic events for the local University. He later joined another hip hop team called “910†that later did back up dancing for such artist like KRS ONE.Though he enjoyed dance, he still aspired to sing. Grundy Gospel EnsemblePoet has interned at Nile River Music in Bellflower, California where he did Music Engineering, he taught hip hop instructional dance classes for the youth, and Toured Southern Carolina churches and college universities with the Grundy Gospel Ensemble. Poet also had the opportunity to perform at the 8th Annual Awards Celebration and Viewing Dinner for the Academy awards sponsored by Children Uniting Nations in West Hollywood, CA and also the Odonde Afrikan Festival in Downtown South Philadelphia where he opened up for Leela James.Poet has currently graduated from A&T University in Greensboro, NC with his Bachelors Degree in Arts and Science and a major in General Music with a focus in Business.
