BIOGRAPHY (2005):
1998
Drawing upon an unholy trinity of Satanism, Vampirism and Occult Fascism, and taking as its primary musical influence early 90s Black Metal, the band that is destined to become Satanic Warmaster begins to take shape; growing into a thing of guttural screams and hate-filled lyrics eager to proclaim the demise of the worthless. Born out of an original dark vision in the implacable mind of Satanic Tyrant Werwolf, the vision will eventually become a musical reality. A musical reality that will inexorably push Black Metal forward, without compromising any of the genres original ideology and raw hatred.
An early manifestation of that vision would be Marsch Zu Neuen, a one-off demo by Blutrache, another of Satanic Tyrant Werwolfs many ravening offspring.
1999
The first Satanic Warmaster demo, Bloody Ritual is recorded - its dark, necro sound showing an early promise of the brutality to come. But it is not this, so much as the recording of the Blutrache demo that truly creates a more definitive blueprint for the future.
2000
With a sound as provocative and hateful as its title implies, Gas Chamber, Satanic Warmasters second demo, is recorded. Later in the same year, the band also records the album Black Metal Kommando, but for the time being it remains unreleased due to Werwolfs dissatisfaction with the sound and overall quality of the material. This is not a band that is destined to release material just for the sake of it. If the end result does not meet with Werwolfs demanding quality controls, it will not see the light of day.
2001
Torech is asked to join the band and Strength and Honour is recorded. The response to its release on Northern Heritage in the autumn of 2001, and the interest it engenders in the band, is both extremely positive and very encouraging for the future.
2002
Northern Heritage releases the MCD Black Katharsis. By now the band has also started to generate interest amongst some of the other labels, and a verbal agreement is reached with No Colours Records for a contract to release two full-length albums and a mini album.
2003
Opferblut the first of the full-length albums on No Colours Records is released, Lord Sarcofagian, of the band Baptism, joining the band on drums. This is followed by two split EPs. One, self-titled, with the US band Krieg on Darkland Records, the other, The True Face of Evil with the German band The True Frost, on Satanic Terror Productions.
2004
After a two-year wait, February 11 finally sees the release of the split/collaboration album with Clandestine Blaze on Northern Heritage. This is an interesting and unusual album in that it is not solely made up of tracks where each band plays its own titles, as is the norm, but it also features four tracks where the two bands perform together.
of the Night is released in May of 2004 on No Colours Records in both MCD and 10 versions.
The same year sees Satanic Warmaster playing its first two live shows, with Vholm and T.H. drafted in as session drums and bass respectively. The first live show, together with Horna and Behexen, is on relative home territory Turku in Finland on the 22nd May. The second appearance takes place in Germany (July 9-10) at the Under the Black Sun Festival with, amongst others, Isvind, Inquisition, Anael and Merrimack.
Further releases follow - a split 7 with Akitsa on Agonia/Nightmare Productions and a split MCD with Gestapo 666 on Niessedrion Records, which features the Bloody Ritual demo originally recorded in 1999.
22nd October 2004 and the band are once again playing live. Also on the bill this time are Baptism and Uncreations Dawn.
2005
Torech leaves the band.
Carelian Satanist Madness is released on No Colours Records. TH and Vholm are once again drafted in, the former on session second rhythm guitar and the latter on session drums, with Werwolf, a noted multi instrumentalist, also taking up drum duty on a couple of the tracks.
Further live dates ensue - Satanic Warmaster now playing as a three piece with Werwolf on bass and vocals, TH on guitar and Vholm on drums. They join Krieg, Archgoat, Baptism, Horna and Vitsaus on the bill for the two night Feast for the Devoted in July of 2005, and appear again with Archgoat in Turku in August. Plans are currently being drawn up for a mini tour of Central Europe in the autumn.
With Carelian Satanist Madness by far its strongest release to date, the band has increased its following considerably and shown itself to be a force to be reckoned with in a genre badly in need of finding its true direction once more. With a new album and some split releases planned for 2006, Werwolfs skill in writing necro music and his reputation for uncompromising lyrics, melded with a fundamental admiration for, and understanding of, what real Black Metal is truly about, can only lead Satanic Warmaster to even more interesting, and greater achievements.
