From the industrial streets of Detroit to the flatlands of Memphis and back again comes forth TY, a rap artist and track producer armored with the desire to bring realism back to the craft of rhyming. TY’s distinct style delivers non-glamorized and compelling lyrics over his own original tracks, fusing the captivating flavors of the north and south rap cultures.
TY has possessed an unbreakable love affair with hip-hop and the art of rap since he first learned how to read. TY grew up in Detroit where writing and spitting lyrics began simply as a childhood hobby and later served as a means to cope with the struggles he and his family faced. As a teen, TY moved to Memphis where he was introduced to the gritty, slow influence that the Memphis rap scene provided. Attracted to this sound, TY spent hours in his bedroom placing pen to paper, further defining his story. TY’s aspirations then prompted him to begin creating his own beats.
TY’s vision had always been to become a successful rap artist, but after an once-in-a-lifetime discussion with Russell Simmons during a hip-hop convention, TY’s passion for showcasing his talent ascended to new heights. TY refocused his strategy to utilize the practical knowledge he acquired over the years to recently compile and produce his first release, TY Almost Famous: The Mixtape. TY has also been successful in creating and selling several original beats to other artists.
Currently unsigned, TY has performed at various local Detroit venues including Alvin’s, Club Celebrity, and the Clubhouse Tavern as well as at talent shows and local parties. TY is aimed to bring his story to light through his music and is always working on new and innovative material.
