Forged from Darkness (FFD) was first formed in Leeds during 2006 when Ben Witton (Guitar/Vocals), John Wright (Bass/Vocals) and Paul Cox (Drums) came together as a three piece metal band. When they reached the limitations of a three piece band, they decided that it was time to start searching for additional members.
They found Chris Linley (Keyboards) from the band Twin Paradox, and Karl Floyd (Rhythm Guitar) and decided to bring them into the band. At last FFD had a complete line up. Eventually John decided that the band wasn’t for him, and left. The band was now left with no bass and no vocals. In retaliation FFD decided that Ben should take up the position of vocalist/lead guitar. During their search for a new bass player the found Gord and decided to bring him into the band. Again the band had a complete line up and was able to continue to progress. Unfortunately, Karl began to struggle with the music that the band was writing, so the band had to let him go. Through the loss of their rhythm guitarist, FFD decided that Chris would be the new rhythm guitarist.
Now that the band was once again ready to progress, they spent a few months writing enough material for them to play a show. They played their first gig as FFD at a charity show in wetherby raising money for children in need. During that gig, Nick Dee came on stage with them and sang their cover of Metallica’s ‘Seek and Destroy’, and was thus accepted into the band. Over the next few months, tension began to emerge within the band, during which Chris left the band for personal reasons.
Ricky Mitchell was to be the new guitarist in Forged from Darkness. He completed the line up once again, bringing in a whole new level of musical inspiration to the band. The tension that had been growing within the band eventually erupted after their second show, and lead to Gord leaving the band. During the time that Chris had spent away from FFD, his family circumstances meant that he had been living completely alone in what was once his family home. He spent nearly all of this time developing his skills as a bass guitarist. At this point, Forged from Darkness decided to bring Chris back into the band as the Bassist.
Recently, the band had noticed that Paul was beginning to struggle with the music that the band were making, and he had secretly formed another band behind, so they decided to get rid of him. To replace him, they chose Richard Belton, who showed great potential as a drummer.
Things seemed to be going fantastically over the next year, which included the production of the bands first E.P ‘World of Corruption’, but unfortunately differences arose between Nick and the rest of the band, which began to cause tension and instability. FFD now faced its darkest moment. The differences within the band were pushing it to the point of destruction. Reluctantly, the band decided that Ben and Chris would take on the role of vocalists in addition to their instruments, and they would let their close friend Nick go.
Since that time, Forged from Darkness has gained steam once again, and to this day are continuing to write what they believe is the beginning of a whole new sound which will shape music forever.If so, then prepare yourself for something big…
