About Me
When Grandmaster Ronald Rose, KICKS Tae Kwon Do & Fitness Centers, Inc. owner, first decided to open a martial arts studio, his main goal was to share the many benefits Tae Kwon Do has provided him on a day to day basis with children and adults of all ages. The doors to KICKS originally opened across from Northside Hardware in Wayne in August of 1977 as the Wayne Karate Studio. Approximately 25 Students signed up to learn the Tae Kwon Do techniques from Grandmaster Rose who was the only instructor at that time. They were located at the small studio for two years, and it consisted of only about 15 feet by 20 feet in space. Then the studio moved to a larger facility that was situated on west Michigan Avenue by the old phone company. It was big enough that they could install locker rooms and increase their student attendance.Within one year of being established at the new location, KICKS attracted more then 75 students throughout the state including places such as Rockwood, Jackson, Livonia and Rochester. The many accomplishments of the students and their passion for the sport soon reached several schools, businesses and civic organizations. Grandmaster Rose decided to increase the number of instructors at KICKS so he could offer more programs to his students.
In 1987, with the assistance of his wife, Sr. Master Christine Rose, he started a Tournament Team with competitors preparing to compete in local, state and national competitions. The Tournament Team consists of a very talented group of people who are intense about their training and accomplishments. They started with only 12 members on the team in 1987, and then it grew to over 60 people ranging in age from 5 to 45 years old. These people are students who are concentrating on pursuing the sport of Tae Kwon Do in addition to the practical self defense aspects it teaches. There are a variety of students on the Team ranging from white to black belt.Membership at the studio continued to grow, and the Roses developed a large instructing staff to assist them with sharing the Tae Kwon Do philosophy and benefits which can last a lifetime. Grandmaster Ronald Rose said Tae Kwon Do can be enjoyed as a physical and mental art which is continuously challenging. He said the more one puts into the program, the more he/she will get out of it.He is an internationally credentialed, high ranking Grandmaster dedicated to teaching both the sport and art of Tae Kwon Do. Grandmaster Rose says he is a full time instructor and a lifetime student of Tae Kwon Do. It is not unusual to see several Masters training and continuing to learn in the classes of KICKS.
