About Me

Original founders of Social Jet Lag, Melissa Germano and Jeremy Eslinger, have seen a lot of changes since day one. In fact, if one were to take a listen to the band that started it all you would wonder how Social Jet Lag even came to be. In the spring of 2003, Jeremy formed a band in Orlando, FL, hoping that the change of scenery from his hometown in Huntsville, AL, would help his career as an artist. While searching for a female vocalist who could do some background harmonies, Jeremy found Melissa. Rather spontaneously she joined the band and five24 was born. However, it wasn't a long-lived dream.
“Five24 seemed destined to fail from day one. The band itself wasn’t going in the direction any of us wanted,” Eslinger said of his band. “Melissa came in the last months of our existence and was never meant to be a permanent member, but had she not joined we would not have continued after Five24 faded.”
Five24 lived on for only a few more months and the members decided to take a permanent hiatus. During this break, Jeremy and Melissa began experimenting with sounds and lyrics and came back in January of 2005 with a new band that featured Germano as the lead vocalist. Avenue combined an edgy blend of heavy rock with a Gothic twist and was compared to Evanescence. Unfortunately, circumstances forced the duo to move out of Florida and back to Jeremy's hometown in Huntsville, AL, where only 6 months later Avenue met its demise.
Feeling discouraged and frustrated the team almost called it quits, but once again it was not their time. They resurfaced with a fire and a new passion. No longer did they feel the need to fit a scene and no more were they trying to utilize the “in” sound. Instead they focused on the music that moved them, that meant something to them, and they began writing words that spoke to the very personal situations in their lives. Joined by Wyatt Urban, Geoff 'Skinny' Love, and Cody Edger, Jeremy and Melissa have formed what looks to be a promising new band.
“We took the focus off of the scene and focused on areas that we’ve dealt with personally. Jeremy and I both have been through many emotionally draining times,” Melissa pointed out. “We’ve witnessed friends struggle with suicide, drugs, and alcohol. We’ve been through divorce, depression, and complete loneliness. Still, here we stand. Hopefully through our music we can reach people struggling in those very issues.”
While Social Jet Lag is compared to the popular band Paramore, they are so much more. Instead of pop/punk-infested songs, SjL's music has a sense of angst and excitement that burns through the hardcore-esque guitar riffs and metal core breakdowns while still keeping a catchy and melodic foundation. While Melissa is still the front woman and beauty behind the band, Jeremy has now stepped to the forefront and provides full-bodied screams and wails to add something that would make even the most diehard metal head enjoy.
Social Jet Lag has just finished their first EP, which will include the highly anticipated “MTV Killed The Scene”. With an ever-changing sound that will always remain firmly rooted in hardcore, Social Jet Lag hopes to be that ‘little bit of extra’ that people have been looking for.
“I guess you could call us ‘dance-core’,” Jeremy laughs when asked what he would classify their style as.
Well, whether hardcore, screamo, punk-core, or this ‘dance-core’ Social Jet Lag is a new band with a new flavor that will appeal to the masses.
