My name is Crystal and I currently reside in Richmond, VA. Ayana Creations, which blossomed on March 16, 2007, is the place where beads become life. I make beaded flowers, jewelry and accessories. Ayana means "beautiful flower" in Ethiopian and so, I sculpt beautiful flower creations! My gift is creating beaded flowers using the vintage art of French beading. My flowers can be used for decorating, just like real and silk flowers. They make wonderful alternatives to real flowers for those who have allergies or curious pets and children. What makes them unique is that they can be passed down as heirlooms, they truly are works of art and they never die.
I began making beaded flowers for stress relief when she was a domestic violence counselor. I am a self-taught artist and I'm passionate about making flowers come to life through seed beads. My inspiration comes from everything around me, especially nature.
I use the French beading method to create my flowers. Thousands of tiny seed beads are strung onto flexible wire and shaped into various flower components. These parts come to life when they are crafted to make flowers and foliage. Next the stems are wrapped with floral tape. The stems can also be wrapped embroidery thread or beads for a more dramatic effect. I prefer embroidery floss because it has a silky finish.
