"Every millenium a child is born that can perform at a level beyond the expected four minute thirty second song". These words of the late great Big Pun, one of NOLO's biggest influences, quickly became the mantra that this young Latino rapper used as a motivation when making strides to fufill his dream. Born and raised in the Bronx, Nolo quickly became fascinated with the ideas and values that HIP HOP represented. Even before his decision to make music of his own, NOLO ( whose real name is Anthony Ortiz) always considered himself to be an avid fan of all of Hip Hop's biggest names. As he got older, he began to mingle with other young aspiring artists and started developing his skill writing battle rhymes and studying actual artists at the time ( Nas, DMX, Big Pun, Camron, Fabolous, NORE, 2 Pac, Biggie ). As his journey was just beginning, it wasn't long before he was taken under the wing of his Uncles Capitol "A" and TMP. "They showed me the ropes, and helped me progress faster; When I used to battle other kats my age the advice and pointers I was given by them really set me apart from the rest" NOLO sternly recalls when asked of his relationship with his Uncles. "Point blank, they are the reason I rapped, they are true examples and pioneers for Latino artists everywhere". As he got older, his progress with his craft even suprised the people who put the pen in his hand, " That nigga NOLO's gettin a little harder to keep up with", Is all TMP had to say when his name came up. After being a witness to the success TMP had with the IRON CLAD movement and his pound for pound battle with Jay Z, NOLO felt the need to become a more complete artist and saw the importance of making actual songs rather than mixtape freestyles. " I realized the need for original songs, with actual concepts and substance. I wanted to voice my opinion on a lot of things". With that said at the age of 19 NOLO dropped "It's bigger" and "Sad Love Song" and recalls the immediate response given not only by people in his circle, but strangers he had never met. " I remember numerous occasions when I was getting off of my job and people actually recognizing me on the train, walking along Fordham road, and on my block spitting my lines back at me". It was at that point that NOLO realized that he had talent not only he and his team felt was legit. " It was an incredible feeling to see some of the responses I got from people". Now at the tender, yet polished age of 21, NOLO is hard at work with one thing in mind, the grind. " Nowadays you cant wait for a label to come thru your hood and discover you, you have to get your own name out there, drop your own mixtapes, book your own shows and hope to be heard in a game where frankly everyone is a rapper". With his clever word play, precise punch lines, and the ability to hit you with a rapid fire flow, NOLO is an artist that should be taken seriously and looked out for in the near future.
