Adirondack Moonshine Conspiracy

About Me

Keep in mind we are all college students at SUNY Potsdam in way upstate NY, i am talking like on the border of Canada. A few semesters ago we started talking about how much we enjoyed bluegrass music. Upstate NY (way past albany) is fields and pastures and bluegrass music. After a while we decided it was not only what we wanted to do, but it was our destiny to make a bluegrass band. Much of our music is based on traditional bluegrass (and moonshine.) We have a great time playing the music, especially when you can walk from party to party with your instruments when the weather is nice. Make sure when you see Matt the bass player, you shake his hand. He carries a stand-up bass around that is bigger than i am.Anyways, we started playing a bunch of bluegrass covers our first being Rocky Top. Will and I (kyle) started bringing in original material, and matt would lay some powerful bass licks and creative solos over the top (or bottom) and we were impressed by the results. We have an original sound because of the lack of other bluegrass instruments such as the dobro and mandolin, but we can still manage to hold it down bluegrass style though.Much of the lyrics i write, i play around with the words. Listen to the songs a few times, there might be a deeper meaning than you thought.Well thats the Adirondack Moonshine Conspiracy for nowWe would like to thank Madstop at the Crane School of Music located in Potsdam, Ny for stepping in and giving us a chance to record. We will have new material soon, i will be experimenting with my own recording equipment.peace and loveamc

Sounds Like: our music sounds more like traditional bluegrass than anything. We started playing the old bluegrass standards when we first got together. We do have an original sound and style i would say. When you hear a transition in a song you can very much tell that it is an adirondack moonshine transition. Listen to the tunes and let us know what you think about them.Moonshine really tells its own story thats why there are no lyrics involved. Will came up with this tune, i dont know what goes on in his head when hes writing but whatever it is i think it is amazing. He just busted this song out one day when we were practicing and all of a sudden we had a song. It is one of my personal favorites. Matt's bass is what gives this song power in my opinion, it has a really punchy tone to it.Empty Flask- the music for this tune was a mix of will and matt coming up with groovy bluegrass progression. I put the lyrics to it and worked on the bridge with them. The song sounds happy even though it is really depressing and thats how i wrote the lyrics. My Baby's Gone- This song was inspired by, well you guessed it, a relationship. I wrote this in the summer of 2005 and recorded it on my own recorder. I wrote the whole song on the banjo, something i had never done before. I showed this to will and matt and it took a while to get the timing down that i wanted for it, but then it just clicked. Will worked in some nice banjo playing from my recording and matt gave it a really traditional sound with his bass.Silent Mountain- This song i came up with when i was drunk on my friends piano at his house. At that point i wanted the lyrics to be in french. This song is the most fun to play. It can only start with the bass, that is a personal rule of mine. Will's banjo sounds awesome in this song. The solos are very original and just make this a perfect song.
