I dont care if it is written for adults or for children I like it all.
What I am reading now...*The Unwilling Warlord
by Lawrence Watt-Evans
Sept 25, 2007
I love L W-E. Excellent book.
When Sterren is told that he is the hereditary Warlord of one of the small kingdoms, he does not want to go; he is gambler not a fighter. Then when war breaks out he hires a handful of magic users to fight for him. But one of them is very powerful and decided to conquer the kingdom himself. *
*Fire Star
by Chris D’Lacey
Sept. 18, 2007
I am getting really tired of books that suck. This one did big time. I was just too weird. It brought in too many new treads and abandoned the old ones. What was wrong with the bad guys that were already in the story, did we really need new ones to kill off the old ones and be a whole new threat? I don’t think so. Did we really need to have the long lost boyfriend turned monk show back up? NO. Just too much stupidity. I think the author tried too hard, and it did not work. *
*Alia Waking
by Laura Williams Mc Caffrey
Aug 28, 2007
Alia has always wanted to be a warrior but after she helps capture two young spies she begins to question her calling, discovers a new talent, and makes new friends. Good book. *
*Power of the Witch
The Witch in Every Woman
by Laurie Cabot
Aug 28, 2007
The first book was not bad. I enjoyed reading it. Laurie Cabot is the highly public “Witch of Salemâ€; she does an Ok job of presenting some basic information. Over all impression: C.
The second book did not interest me. I read only the introduction and part of the first chapter before I tossed the book aside. *
*The Witches’ Craft
by Raven Grimassi
Aug 20, 2007
I should have known I would not like this book when in the introduction it states, “Many modern books… inform the reader that almost everything described is optional, and that the prescribed items can easily be substituted with other things.†It goes on to say that this method is a “disservice to the student†I do not agree. I think most of the ritual and trappings of the craft are simply aides that each person must decide how to use. Any of it can be ignored or substitutions made to better suit the individual at the time. Substitutions and omissions may be made because the “required†items are not currently available to you or because you simply do not feel like using them. I fully believe that intent is all that matters. If you feel that the trapping of a ritual spell are important or necessary or add to the casting then by all means use them, but for others who do not need or want to use the traditional or recommended items more power to you. The book does have a few good things to say and is not complete crap, but I did not really care for what it had to say. *
*Witch Catcher
by Mary Downing Hahn
Aug 17, 2007
Ok sometimes I just have to read something easy and childlike. not particularly difficult reading and not a deep story. just fun. *
*Book of Shadows
by Phyllis Curott
July 26, 2007

*Otherland. City of Golden Shadow

*Earth, Water, Fire, & Air
Essential Ways of Connecting to Spirit
by Cait Johnson
June 14, 2007
Interesting...kind of… but... I coundn’t get into this book. Not my style at all and I did not feel like forcing myself to read it. *
*Cottage Witchery Natural Magick for Hearth and Home
by Ellen Dugan
June 12, 2007
Don’t bother with this book. It is garbage. It’s full of cutisie little charms and what kind of flowers to put on your front porch. This book is more about decorating than the craft. I gave up on it when it started talking about tea-light candles and spices. *
*Practical Magic for Beginners – Techniques & Rituals to Focus Magical Energy
by Brandy Williams
June 10, 2007
This book approaches magic without religion. Practitioners from any background can utilize its spell casting techniques. *
*Spells & Rituals Using Candle Magick
by Sally Love
June 8, 2007
A simple introduction to candle magick. My only complaint is that it introduces some things in reverse order.*
*Little Fur-A Fox Called Sorrow
by Isobelle Carmody
June 2 2007
Wow what a refreshing story. Beautifully yet simply written. Isobelle Carmody is a author worth reading. Little Fur sets out on a dangerous journey into Underth acompanied by her faithful friend Ginger the cat, a rat, two ferrets and Sorrow a fox who has been abused by humans.Together they learn the secret plans of the Troll king.*
*The Tenth City
by Patrick Carman
May 29 2007
OK I finished the series. IT sucks! IT ends with god defeating the devil and everyone who lives feeling so wonderful because they know that the people who died are living forever in the tenth city(heaven) and they will get to see them again there someday. Retch puke...Why did I bother reading this?*

*Beyond the Valley of Thorns
by Patrick Carman
May, 2007
2nd book in the Land of Elyon series. I will see how this one goes. I didn't really like the first one much. It's writing style was very juvenile. but I am horibly anal about finishing what I start. I dont give up on books very often. *
*Celebrating the Great Mother
by Cait Johnson and Maura Shaw
May 2007
An excelent book of ideas for parents who want to share their beliefs and celebrations with their children. Unfortunetly 2 out of 3 of mine are too old for most of the activities.*
*Pagan Paths
by Pete Jennings
May 10, 2007
Interesting book. It discusses many pagan paths.(duh)*

*With a Single Spell
by Lawrence Watt-Evans
April 15, 2007
Another reread of a LW-E book that I read years ago. Funny book. *
*Prophecy : child of earth
by Elizabeth Haydon
April 5, 2007
Many reviewers did not like this book. They claimed that there were too many sex scenes and that there was too much emphasis on how beautiful Rhapsody is. I disagree. I liked it. There were some sexy scenes in the last few chapters, they were even a little graphically titillating... but they were not too bad. As adults we should be able to handle it. Maybe for kids it would be too much, but it is not a kid’s book. I also do not think that Rhapsody's beauty is over done. The simple fact that she does not see it herself makes it an interesting angle when everyone else can see it and she does not understand how she affects them. I like the book; I don’t care what any one else says.*
*Winter Door
by Isobelle Carmody
March 13, 2007
book 2 of the Gateway trilogy *
*Night Gate
by Isobelle Carmody
March 1, 2007
Good book. I really like Isobelle Carmodys work. Rebecca Jane Winnoway, known as Rage, her 4 dogs and the neighbor’s goat are drawn into a magical land. Supported by her animals who have taken on human characteristics, Rage travels through Valley to find the missing wizard and save both the land and her comatose mother. *
*The Dark Hills Divide
by Patrick Carman
Feb 22 2007
Cute, but juvenile. The writting style is not very mature.*
*Rhapsody - Child of Blood
by Elizabeth Haydon
Feb 15 2007
I finally finished it. This book nothing but an introduction to the story. There is little action, and when there finally is, it is the end of the book. However, I liked it. It was well written and occasionally funny. I never wanted to stop reading it. I did wish it would move a little faster at times, but It kept me reading. There are 4 more books in the series. I plan to read them soon. Funny quote: "If you have smudged one note of my work you will only be able to count to six, and you will need to drop your pants to do so."*
*Exploring the Pagan Path: Wisdom from the Elders
by many authors
Jan 28 2007
Short essays by many noteworthy pagan leaders. Some were very interesting others were not. I skimmed and skipped through the book reading only what interested me.*
*Little Fur The legend Begins
by Isobelle Carmody
Jan 28 2007
Ok even when reading something else I cant seem to put down new books. This was a fun little story. Typical fantasy. Little Fur is a Troll Elf who lives in a small glade of 7 ancient trees where she tends to the small animals who come to her for healing. But her peaceful existance is interupted when she learns that humans have started burning trees and her home and all the world is at risk. She must set out on a dangerous jounrey to find someone who can put a stop to the burning. *

Yet another book about a teen in medieval times. Matilda, an apprentice bonesetter, learns to love people and live life. *
*The Ballad of Lucy Whipple
by Karen Cushman
Jan 16 2007
I did like this one,but prefer the medieval settings of Catherine called Birdy, and the Midwifes Apprentice. *
*The Voyage of Patience Goodspeed
by Heather Vogel Frederick
Jan 2007
1835 a 13 year old girl on a whaleing ship, but a much fluffier story then The Slave Dancer.*
*The Slave Dancer
by Paula Fox
Jan 10 2007
WOW! Not my normal type of book but very good. This Newberry award wining book paints a vivid and ugly picture of the slave ships. It is 1840, when 13 year old Jessie Bollier is kidnapped from his home in New Orleans to be the slave dancer onboard the Moonlight. He is forced to play his pipe for the enslaved men, women, and children while they are whipped into a "dance" by the crew. Jessie undergoes many horrors aboard the ship including near starvation, thirst, disease and the death of his shipmates and the slaves. He waivers between wary friendship and hatred of the crew member, and fear of the captain, a cruel man. Jessie's outlook on life is slowly worn down over the journey until he can see little hope for escape.*
*Rodzina
by Karen Cushman
Jan 8 2007
Another piece of Historical fiction by Karen Cushman. The title character is a 12 year old polish girl who travels from Chicago to California in 881 on the Orphan Train hoping to find a family and a home. Again excellent writting, and a good story.*
*IceFire

Jan 7 2007
Much better than the last one. I really like this story and deffinetly want to read the next one now. Lots of dragons and polar bears too.*
*Catherine, Called Birdy
by Karen Cushman
Jan 5 2007
Hillarious. Historical fiction set in 1290. A young girl foils her fathers many plans to marry her to some fat ugly or stupid suitor. But finally she is trapped and must accept a proposal from a man she despises. A wonderful tale.*
*The Fire Within
by Chris d'Lacey
Jan 2 2007
Easy reading kids book. Seems to be more about squirrels than dragons. I was very dissapointed with the ending. I'm giving the second one a chance but I hope it is better.*
*The Keeping Place
by Isobelle Carmody
Dec 31 2006
book 4 of Obernewton. A very long book, over 700 pages. The first part was pretty slow but I kept at it, and the ending was worth the wait. I cant wait for the next book., The Sending. I dont know it it has been published yet, maybe in Australia, but not in the US yet. *
*The Practical Pagan
by Dana D Eilers
Dec 10, 2006
Common sense. If you have any you won’t need to read this book. The first chapter was the only one that I found at all useful.*
*Artemis Fowl The Lost Colony
by Eoin Colfer
Nov 2006
The 5th Artemis Fowl book, and it is still a great story.*
*The Ropemaker
by Peter Dickinson
Nov 2006
An excellent story. Although she is descended from a long line of women who talk to the trees and have helped keep the valley safe for 20 generations, Tilja has no magic of her own. When the magical protection begins to fade, she is one of 4 who must leave their peaceful valley home and find the magic user who can renew the valley's safeguards before the Emperor attacks the now vulnerable land.*
*Wizards at War
by Diane Duane
Nov 15,2006
I have read 7 other books in this series so far. I dont like it when the characters die!!!*
*Luthiel's Song - Dreams of the Ringed Vale
by Robert Marston Fanney
Nov 6, 2006
This book is written by the moderator of a group I am on here at MySpace. Thought I should read his work. When her sister is chosen to be sacrificed to the evil Vyrl, Luthiel sets out on a perilous journey to save her. Along the way she is assisted in surprising ways. *
*The Misenchanted Sword
by Lawrence Watt-Evans
Oct 27,2006
I read this book about 15 years ago, but the book I have requested from the public library is not available yet and I had nothing to read, so I decided it was time for a reread. I had forgotten how funny L W-E is. I will have to reread more of his books.*
*The Riddle
by Alison Croggon
Oct 16, 2006
Another author out of Australia, Alison Croggon, has written a powerful epic story. Maerad is a strong female lead character, and the setting is lush and believable. This is the second bok of her Pellinor series that started with The Naming *
*The Body Sacred
by Dianne Sylvan
Sept 2006
You are a Goddess! This book is designed to develop and reinforce a positive body image. We are sacred and devine. We as women need to throw aside the idea that we are not pretty enough, or skinney enough or young enough. We need to learn to love ourselves as we are, and as we will become. Rejoice in our womanly curves, our sagging breasts and rounded bellies. *
*Ashling
by Isobelle Carmody
Sept 24 2006
Book 3 of the Obernewton Chronicles. The story line develops.... Still a good read.*
*The Farseekers
by Isobelle Carmody
Sept. 6 2006
This is the second book of the Obernewton Chronicles. Elspeth and her friends set out on a dangerous journey to rescue a powerful misfit, recover a stash of oldtime books, and destroy the machines that caused the Great White.*
*The Glass Castle
by Jeannette Walls
Aug 29 2006
I did not pick this book for myself. My family chose it as a sisters book club selection. However I find it very consuming. The author tells of her childhood growing up with poverty and neglect. Hunger and deprivation are everyday matters, but there is always the love of her brilliant, but chronically unemployed father and her eccentric, artist mother who could not be bothered to make a meal when she could be painting something that would last forever.*
*Obernewtyn
by Isobelle Carmody
Excellent read. I am really enjoying it.
In a post holocaust world, mutations are condemned and sent to a remote mountain city. But one young girl discovers that her enhanced mental powers can be used to fulfill a destiny that will save the world from repeating its past.*
*Cart and Cwidder and Drowned Ammet
by Diana Wynne Jones
The first two books in the Dalemark Quartet. Delightful stories, easy and fun reading. The books can be read separately as each stands on its own.*
*The Kin
by Peter Dickinson
This book is kind of a Clan of the Cave Bear for young people. It chronicles the lives and journeys of a group of primitive hunter/gatherer people as they they travel searching for "good places" where food is plentiful. They make friends and enemies along her way, need to survive volcanic eruptions, drought and hostile tribes. Four of the six young characters are each given a portion of the book in which they tell their own story of coming of age. Interspersed between the chapters of the main story are myths that explain the social and religious background of the the Kin. Very well written.*
*Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner
by Scott Cunningham
A well written, and easy to read introductory book for those who want to learn about the Wiccan religion and choose not to, or cannot find a coven to join. Scott clearly lays out, and explains the basics of the craft, while encouraging each practitioner to develop their own style, and choose rituals and beliefs that are personal and meaningful.
Also by the same author *Living Wicca: A Further Guide for the Solitary Practitioner* continues along the same line of development of private spiritual growth*
*Howls Moving Castle
by Diana Wynne Jones
Beautifuly written! A young woman sets out to seek her fortune and remove a curse put on her by a wicked witch. She finds along the way that she has the power to change and create her own life. Mayazaki made a movie of this book, and I can fully recommend his version as well, although it is somewhat changed from the origional novel. Both book and movie are delightful, and equally worthy of the time to read/watch.*
*The Spiral Dance
by Starhawk
A book about modern Wicca. Written in 1979 but updated in 98 and again in 99, full of rituals that have little meaning to me, but still interesting *
*The Chanters of Tremaris Trilogy
by Kate Constable
Australia has some wonderful new authors. Alison Croggon, Garth Nix and Kate Constable are all refreshing the fantasy world with their wonderful stories. The first book of the trilogy is "The Singer of All Songs". I am really looking forward to reading the next two.*
*I have finished The Waterless Sea and the Tenth Power. Excellent writting.Kate Constable is a wonderful writer and I hope to see more of her books soon.*
