Hope this is the first of many new songs featuring The boys from FivePastMidnight. A ROCK band is tuning up to play a gig in Barlinnie Prison....... Five Past Midnight, were invited to the jail after a booking agent heard them play live. The group, formed in 1989, will follow in the footsteps of a host of bands who have played the venue, including Deacon Blue. Bass player Gordon Glen said: "It’s certainly something different for us, but we’re really looking forward to it. It’ll be great to put on a proper performance for the prisoners. We should be playing to about 200 to 250 people."“We were honoured to be asked to play there and it was another first for us. Inmates and officers loved it, but unfortunately one prisoner used the opportunity to inflict harm on another!!" Five Past Midnight played Barlinnie on February 8. FivePastMidnight: time to see them if you love classic rock By Emily Henderson. FOR those who are unsure why they should listen to the music of FivePastMidnight, fronted by Hamilton’s Andy McGeoch, the band give one simple reason. “It’s classic rock played well by good musicians,” says Andy, who names a long list of bands and singers including Queen, Bon Jovi and The Darkness who all inspire their “air guitar” sound. “Our plans for next year are to keep playing music that we enjoy and play to more people who also enjoy our brand of rock. “FivePastMidnight won’t be releasing a CD, but I update my tunes on MySpace and they are available to download for free. We all do this just for the love of music. No egos, no drama – just guys having fun. ” For more about Andy and the band, see myspace.com/andymcgeoch and myspace.com/five pastmidnight ......... ..>. The “Rock Stars And Movie Stars Soiree” has came and went and we have some photos for all to see what we all looked like. To everyone who made the effort - Nice One - Thanks a mill - Brill!!. Get Your Own! | View Slideshow There have been requests for us to put some audio of us on this page for all to hear but as we are a covers band this is problematic, although ***STOP PRESS*** At a recent rehearsal Andy boy had a cough and couldn’t sing too much, so the boys had a little blues jam and voila you can have a listen to some of it now. BIOGRAPHY 1989 ,a drunken rock roll party, 3 mulleted dudes Gordon Glen ,Ian Murray and Scott Goldie had a cunning plan of putting together a cover band .from the ashes of a shambolic original material band called Halloween that had been bimbling along aimlessly for 4 years or so. The Idea was to play material that we liked ,which at the time ranged from Living colour , Queensryche ( what, what ) to The more normal Van Halen , AC/DC etc. Early day enthusiasm seemed to wane as the covers became more obscure and in band fighting took over. Crys of “Am no playin that pish " were very much the order of the day. Years and line up changes rolled by, However Ian Murray and Gordon Glen remained > Enter John Duffy ( JD ) A seasoned blues rock guitarist and drinking buddy from Torrance (East Dumbartonshire) Combining with the wild metal style of Ian Murray, JD introduced a new balance and plethora of cover ideas not attempted by others on the circuit. Both guitarists quite simply complemented each other, splitting lead and rhythm depending on the style of the song, Giving the band a bigger scope. Singers and the well documented unreliable nature of percussionists again took its toll and the band took a well needed break around 2002, JD improving his Golf handicap, and Ian Murray and Gordon Glen to play session for Greg Friel. Enter Andy McGeoch, also sessioning with Friel as rhythm guitarist and Backing vocalist. As the Friel project collapsed, Bassist Glen had spotted the awesome potential in McGeochs voice and stage presence and along with Murray and JD invited McGeoch into Berkley2 for a Jam. The cry was F***K me! - Still Desperate for an exceptional drummer McGeoch suggests a mate of his from other projects (wingnut and tasty) called Fuzzy - see photograph. First Rehearsal - The cry was F***K me gently ,The thundering bass of Glen mixed with the power of The Fuzz mixed with heavenly dual marshalled up guitars and the buttock clenching growl of Andy Boy and the jigsaw was complete. It had only taken 15 years but it was worth the wait. Early performances went down a storm and word soon spread, although the selective nature in where the band plays still remains with Five Past Midnight. The band is constantly adding to there set and more often than not will surprise. On the 18th Aug our very own Ian Murray re-formed with the group BLIND ALLEZ for a one off gig in Rockers (Glasgow) which was very well received by all who attended. The band got together again as a farewell to Peter Camp who is Immigrating to Australia. For those who dont know Blind Allez was the nucleous of one of our favorite bands GUN. Below are some photos of the evening.
