My name is Erik Smyth. I'm a guitar player / singer-songwriter / producer-engineer who's been working in the Bay Area for many years. I got my start at the S.F. Community Music Center as a kid. In my teens I was fortunate enough to be taught and mentored by Joe Gore( PJ Harvey,Tracy Chapman) who turned a guitar player into a musician. It was at about this time I formed my first legitimate band 100th Monkey with Mikey Martin and Jeff RJFski. In my twenties I moved to the East Bay and helped form the Mo'fessionals, Frankie Five Finger, and Daddy Goddus. The Mo's pioneered the big band funk scene of the 90's. We recorded two records and played alongside some of the biggest names in the biz until disbanding at around the end of the decade. I then started working with Damion Gallegos (Fungo Mungo), recording and playing live with his rock project. In 2002, I reunited with Loring Jones (drummer of the Mo's) and started focusing on singing, writing and recording. Loring and I currently have a recording studio/ production co/indie label located in the East Bay. We're joined by Russell Bloom our beloved manager who was with us all those crazy years with the Mo's. We can't wait to bring the "Elixer" to a live venue this year!! I also just reunited with Damion Gallegos and Jeff RJFski's project kBrandow!! Look for all this great music to come your way in 2008!!!!
