Riishi Rockefeller, called Von Rex, and her bastard cousins Timothy CoDyer and Erik Royle have been playing with dinosaurs, staring down clocks and traipsing through the jungle while creating a fresh, exciting sound. The trio formed in the spring of 2007 at the Electric Gallery in one of the city’s tougher neighborhoods and have pushed forth from there, playing numerous shows in Ottawa, while honing their raw power and exploring their roots.Riishi is a self-taught guitarist, vocalist and songwriter, with a rather independent nature and a killer voice. Born of gypsies and horse-thieves she found a kinship in wildman Timothy and the lonesome ranger Erik and began expanding the empire. With a vocalist who’s been compared to Janis Joplin and Jack White, a heavy metal drummer and a swinging bassist, Rex and the Royalty have an original and undeniably catchy sound.Preparing for their ascension to power the trio will be recording their first full length album this summer and performing at various events and venues in the region.
