About Me

Wife, mother, activist, geek, anarchist, crazy about my cats and dogs. I like to chase storms in my spare time. I like gardens, forest and all things green. Music - everything from Celtic to classical to punk (no jazz, country-western or opera please.) Most at home rummaging through thrift shops, doing Food Not Bombs events, protesting (duh) and digging barefoot in my yard. Prefer wind and rain to sunshine. Books: well, yes - voracious. Hunter Thompson and Twain are at the top of my list. Photography. Aqaurius with Aquarius rising if you haven't guessed that by now.

(I like to take pictures of my cats!)

Of Addiction and High Anxiety

So how do we alleviate the crushing anxiety that pulses on the periphery of our consciousness? The crushing anxiety that pushes our minds and hearts and bodies in positions and places that no organic ...

Of Billboards and High Anxiety

Politics and the Family

Well here we go with the political ads again. Politicians buy all this air time, and now, instead of just having to cope with the usual right-wing drivel on my morning commute...which I am forced to d...

What would I ask

So we had a Bush protest in Tampa yesterday and I couldn't go 'cause I'm a fucking wage slave and all that. But I listened to our community radio station on the way home (because we all know that main...

Of pre-emptive war and the parable of the bee

I used to be frightened of bees. My reaction was typical of most civilized folk - if you find yourself in a small space with something that has a stinger, swat first and ask questions later. That was ...

The Orlando Rally and The Tree

We had a lovely turn out for our statewide rally to oppose violence in the Middle East yesterday. There were about 350-400 people attending. The one thing that always strikes me about marching with pe...

AmeriKKKan Government 101

Sometimes I wish I could teach AmeriKKKan Government 101. Because judging by the inane comments we peace protesters get from the pro-war crowd, there are some basic fundamentals that are being overloo...

Back to Immokalee

The cold front that has transformed Central Florida into Seattle South hasn't reached Immokalee. I am dressed for the chill that is slowly slouching toward the tropics, but I am grossly overdressed fo...

Seeing things, or Devastation, Part II

Immokalee is poor - unimaginably poor. And it is a place most Floridians will never see, tucked back in the swamp as it is, with a buffer of orange groves to shield the encroaching subdivisions from a...
