WE ARE BACK!! Two years off went by really fast, and we're ready to play. Look for us in some clubs starting this Fall of '09, and spread the word that we're booking private gigs.
==========================
The Countdown Quartet plays old-style R&B, jazz, funky originals, trad New Orleans tunes, rock n roll…really whatever we want, if it’s based in a groove and right for the moment. We walk the line to both club and private gigs. Young and old dig it. We can swing from a lyrical ballad to all-out party music. We’re from Raleigh, NC and travel when needed.
Formed by Dave Wright and Steve Grothmann in 1998, the CDQ vision has changed very little through many lineups. We set out to play our own blend of jazz, old-school R&B, rock n roll and other gooving styles with a raw approach and solid musicianship—authentic but not uptight, funky originals and well-chosen covers to play all night.
Our three releases on Yep Roc Records, the self-titled debut (1999), Party With! (2000), and Sadlack's Stomp (2002) brought great reviews (Billboard, CMJ Music Journal, Jazztimes, Modern Drummer) and CDQ originals were used on MTV’s The Real World. We've hit gigs of every kind—from street busking to festivals to clubs big and small, wedding receptions, BBQs, house parties, a backwoods garage for the mechanics, and bars, bars, and bars—throughout NC, VA, SC, and from the Northeast to Florida to Seattle to the Alamo.
This is from our intended last show at Sad's in summer '07, but now we're back for more...
