About Me

hello, cheers for taking the time to read this. i am a 24 year old drummer from shropshire. i grew up listening to the likes of guns n roses, bush and silverchair but progressed my way (via getting into chopsy session drummers) into funk, drum and bass then into jazz. my first gig was with a rock band and i had only had a drum kit for a week. i went on to study music at new college telford with a group of students who are making waves in the music scene(the kooks, sunshine underground). I played in a drum and bass band in college on percussion which set me in sted for the rest of my musical life. i took a year out to practise to get my drumming and theory chops together so that i could audition for the birmingham conservatoire on the jazz course. on the course i was fortunate to have a very tallented year and was playing all the time and practising constantly. the best gig i got was at cheltenham jazz festival on the same day as herbie hancock. i stayed there for 2 and a half years i currently have the option to go back if i wish. i am now, after getting over tendenitus, working with a folk singer named jake flowers who whants to change direction and get more electric. the bands called the jake flowers scandal. jake has now gone back to playing solo but i do feature on some of his recordings. i also play with a group of jazz musicians from birmingham and london. i am now in the process of starting a new band style and name yet to be decided, watch this space.. Well, that's how The Jake Flowers Scandal hit me! They started out their powerful half-hour or so set like Folk-Rockers on steroids and slightly turned the intensity up with each successive song until it was all pounding drums (courtesy of Ed Gauden), hotwired electric guitar and the lead singer's emotion drenched vocals and impassioned lyrics! WOW!" Stornoway Gazette (gig: 13/04/07 - live review whilst on Highlands & Islands Tour w/The Wallbirds
