About Me

I grew up in Milwaukee playing classical piano. I started playing trumpet around the age of 5 by sitting down at the piano and plunking out notes! I began to take an interest in jazz in high school, listening to some of the swing bands of the 1930s, such as Benny Goodman's ensemble. I begun studying with Mike Plog, a fantastic Milwaukee-based jazz trumpet player. My first contact with 20s jazz was at Organ Piper Pizza in West Allis, WI, where I met musicians such as Bill Davison, John Knurr, Jimmy Christiansen, Bruce Yeo, Ron Reseigh, and the living legend Joe Aaron. While continuing on with modern jazz, I began to pick up other instruments such as clarinet, banjo, sax, and trombone. I now attend school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I continue to write and perform regularly in both modern and traditional styles of jazz.
