About Me

JD comes to music by way of spiritual woe. Born in the heart of American poverty, and raised by true flower children of the 60’s, JD was forced unto the streets of Dallas Texas at the age of 15. After years of witnessing and being a part of society’s worst, he joined the military in hopes of turning his life around. All too soon he awoke a man. A man aware of a sobering reality that the very land he swore to defend is facing a struggle that the strongest military in the world is a no match for.
JD found that he was living in a world of bureaucracy, religion, and culture all dictated by greed and self-righteousness. This was a world full of people who JD couldn’t stand to look at, let alone live with. After the dark time of September 11th, 2001, JD found himself on his knees crying out to God, full of guilt and disappointment, ashamed to be a part of this species called humanity. Out of desperation to connect to some real emotion, JD turned to music. To his surprise the emotion he found, at the age of 21, was love.
JD was hooked. He began to discover great bassist like Paul McCartney, James Jamerson, Jaco Pastorius and Flea. He learned of a world where phrases like “It’s a wonderful life” and “All we need is love” were acceptable.
After his time in the military, stationed in Hawaii, JD moved home to Dallas, a very different man than the 18 year old boy who left for boot camp just 6 years earlier. After working many dead end jobs, JD has found his place. A place where he can help perpetuate the powerful message of love that music has to offer. Recently engaged to his soul mate of five years, JD finds happiness, finally feeling as though he is doing something unselfish for humanity with his life.
“I play a Fender American jazz bass through any amp that is powerful enough to be felt by the audience at hand. See… what I’m doing is pretty much acoustic, four metal strings pressed against a rosewood fret board, and my hands are all I need to create all the different warm melodic bass tones that you hear in our music.” -JD
