Other than my kids, I love music (BLUDSHOT!)... it is rare for me to NOT have music playing somewhere in the background. I'm a bookworm and then some (ask my husband - I suppose I could have a worse addiction than books), I love soccer and football, love being outside when the weather is nice... I know, I am *thrilling* lol.
Genuine, honest, fun, good people. They are out there, right? People who are Bludshot fans rock - come dance with us, we don't know what the hell we're doing so you don't have to be shy :) !
Thanks to my dad for blessing us all with eclectic music tastes! There's not much I won't listen to - BLUDSHOT of course if my favorite and I am always interested in hearing new local/independent music. There's some good stuff out there - I like The Speaks, Bob, Urban Sophisticates from NC... Support these musicians, they are great. If you looked at my Ipod you'd think I had seventeen different personalities... I love oldies especially what my daddy calls "belly rubbin' music" like Al Green (what's sexier than "Let's Stay Together"?), The Temptations, The Four Tops, Smokey Robinson... and so on. Then I switch gears and love classic rock like Jefferson Airplane, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Guess Who, The Doors... being a band nerd at heart I love classical music and just about any movie score by John Williams or James Horner (Glory still makes me cry - it is gorgeous)... I've recently discovered that I love Ray Charles and am adding some jazz to my collection as well. Still love Indigo Girls, Erasure, New Order... also love a lot of country especially Rascall Flatts and Keith Urban, and I LOVE Johnny Cash. I also like hip hop, particularly older or chilled out stuff like Tribe Called Quest, Digable Planets, old Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg... I just got old stuff by Jodeci, Shai and Silk and have been reminded how much I love it! chilled out hip hop like Tribe Called Quest and Digable Planets, got me some old stuff like Shai, Silk and Jodeci lately and am reminded how much I love it. And then of course I'm still a shameless mush and can be found warbling Josh Groban, Peter Cetera, Chicago... Les Miserables is fantastic... and give me a Disney song and I'm probably singing right along (yes, I even know the spoken parts to way too many Lion King songs). I love music... always have... and some of my best childhood memories are singing Rock Lobster (B52's - woo!) with my dad and siblings and dancing around the room or sitting around together and singing My Girl.
I love movies, and I never get to watch them anymore! Love the classics, especially anything with Katharine Hepburn and/or Cary Grant. Philadelphia Story is my all time favorite! A good romantic comedy is the best because, again, I am a shameless mushball. I love Hugh Grant - he makes me laugh - and I love Julia Roberts so of course Notting Hill is one of my favorites. Lately all I watch is kiddie movies... which actually is ok because some of them are pretty darn cool and my 4 year old thinks I rock because I can sing along with the Lion King. I know he'll get a little older and think I'm a huge nerd. It's all good.
I don't get to watch much these days that isn't rated G :) but I do try to sneak time for Dancing with the Stars and American Idol, and I'm sad that Gilmore Girls is gone even though the past two years I barely had time to watch it. I'd like to watch House... and Boston Legal... and stuff like that... but no time.
I'm one of those people who will read anything that I can get my hands on... you know, like sitting at the table reading the back of the cereal box if there's nothing else there? My children-induced short attention span has led to more magazines and less books but I do try to read when I can. I LOVE Diana Gabaldon and like a good little English major I love a lot of the classics - Tom Hardy, George Eliot and Jane Austen in particular. I love Lynn Kurland and will read any historical romance she puts out; same with Marsha Canham. Really, though, I'll give about any book a try - I love to learn, and love a story that grabs my attention and makes me FEEL something, whether it is sorrow, joy, outrage or just makes me laugh!
Those who do good without expecting anything in return, who put themselves out there to try to help someone/something and make the world a little bit better, who stand up for what they believe in. My brother Shawn for having the guts to get out there and pursue his dream - and get up on stage and share his music and his own words with others - he's braver than I could ever be and I'm prouder than I could ever say. Teachers who teach because they believe in what they are doing and want to help children, firefighters/armed forces/police officers who are there despite the danger because they are willing to sacrifice to keep the rest of us safe.
