Local duo Spiders For Love make music for the love of it. Their preferred style is indicative of this mindset: stripped down lo-fi acoustic pop music that would fit nicely on a playlist full of groups like Beat Happening, the Moldy Peaches and the Microphones. Basically, all groups with simple song structures, basic recording setups and plain, honest, often silly lyrics about everyday going-ons with occasional references to pop culture. Comprised of Omaha transplants DL Diedrich (from Wichita) and Cryssy Jean (from Grand Island), the two first connected over the Internet in 2007 due to mutual musical tastes. (DL was recruiting Cryssy Jean’s band to put out their music on the small, mostly Web-based label he runs.) At that time, DL was thinking of leaving Wichita, so Cryssy invited him to move into her small Benson apartment. Not feeling like anyplace was permanent to him, DL complied and the two have lived together in Omaha ever since.

Spiders For Love formed in Omaha, Nebraska in the Summer of 2008. They are often compared to Moldy Peaches, Beat Happening and (early) Beck. Even June and Johnny come to mind for a few people when witnessing the band live. Originally the project was thought up in 2007 as a hardcore industrial group, similar to Ministry or Atari Teenage Riot, but after founders Daniel Lewis Diedrich (Electric Needle Room) and Cryssy Jean (Syd/Sid) began learning covers of classic children's songs (Mary Had a Little Lamb, etc.) the folky acoustic sound they are known for today was finally realized. They wrote their first seven songs, played their first show and recorded an entire 5-song ep in just one week. The ep, simply titled "S4L" was recorded by long time friend, Cricket Kirk (Paper Owls) who also played bass on the album. Although they are commonly known as a duo, there have been several live contributors which continue to expand. The list reads like a who's who of Omaha's elite underground musicians, as well as a few skilled up-and-comers who were just happy to lend their talents for a show or two. In no more than six months after the initial formation Spiders For Love has already begun to establish a significant following in Nebraska and the Mid-west, and who knows, they may be coming to your town soon.
