Well, I once told someone that when I log onto Amazon.com, I go into a trance, so I guess online shopping would be an interest (LOL). I love art galleries and art fairs, live concerts, museums (which is why Washington, DC is one of my favorite cities), fine dining to casual dining (oh who am I kidding? - I just like to eat), groovy little martini bars, ocean-front hotel rooms, long walks on a warm summer night and being in the company of anyone who can make me laugh. I'd love to travel more extensively than I have...I have an itch to cruise the Greek Isles, which I hope to do within the next 5 years. And if I were able to swing through Italy along the way, my feelings wouldn't be hurt.
New friends, old friends, people I've encountered that didn't become a friend, old enemies....anyone with a good heart and a positive outlook on life.
Being a friend of Dorothy, it's almost a requirement that I like dance music...which, fortunately, I do. But, I've found that I'm growing a little weary of it lately (gasp!), although I still like a tune that makes me wanna shake my junk. I'm diggin' on Christina Aguilera's "Back to Basics" right now -- love the Candyman video!! It reminds me so much of Bette Midler and the movie "For the Boys", which is one of my favorites! And I'm totally enamored of Michael Buble. That man could sing to me anytime!! .....And lastly, although it's a little out of the ordinary for me, I do like a lil bit of country. If you wanna hear some fresh country/rock tunes, check out my dear friend Buffy's band, Bomshel, which is in my friend list. They're an up-and-coming duet that are like nothing you've seen or heard. Buf's been a close friend for years, and I'm so happy that all her hard work is finally paying off! So check them out - you'll be pleasantly surprised! Remember the name - "Bomshel" - you'll be hearing it a lot more in the near future...and you'll be able to say you were one of the firsts!
I have such a wide variety of tastes in movies. I like foreign film, black-and-white classics, romantic comedies, tear jerkers, action flicks, horror (supernatural stuff really scares me) and gross-out humor. I just can't do westerns or musicals! (I know, I know...they'll be revoking my membership to the F.O.D. club very soon -- although to placate them, I have to say that I do love Auntie Mame - the Rosalind Russell edition, of course). A few favorites that come to mind are The Piano, Steel Magnolias, Kill Bill 1 & 2, Mommie Dearest (of course), Now Voyager, Serial Mom, and Sordid Lives. And if Bette Midler is in a movie, there's a 99.9% chance I'm gonna love it. I adore that woman...I should have added her up in the music category too. I've worn out the soundtrack to "For the Boys." And I just found out that Miss M. just released a Christmas album and all I can say is ... it's about damned time!
TV is a dangerous category for me. I think I OD'd on reality TV the last few years, and much like the dance music, I'm beginning to grow weary of it. Shows I try not to miss include Desperate Housewives (naturally), Nip/Tuck (sexy, sexy show!), Prison Break (yeah, the roughness does a little something for me), and My Name is Earl, just to make sure I don't forget my country cousins. When I can, I'll catch an episode of Law & Order SVU (Christopher Meloni, anyone?). Oh, and I still do the "reality" thing to some extent...I love Project Runway, Top Chef, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance and the audition segments of American Idol. I'm always amazed at how many people have no self-awareness! And lastly, I have to give a shout out to the Food Network, which has actually made a fairly decent cook out of me. (Paula Deen - love ya girl!).
Do magazines count as books? If so, Consumer Reports, Automobile, Details, Esquire, Vanity Fair, Instinct, Out, and the supermarket tabloids are among my regulars.
People I admire are those that follow their heart, people that treat others with respect and kindness, people that love animals, and people that laugh genuinely and unashamedly from their souls. Anyone that has the courage to be true to themselves and maintain a sense of decency along the way, all while trying to leave each place they've been a little better, are certainly heroic in my eyes.
