About Me

"Dana" [generosity] is first part of meditation training. It is an important ritual of in Buddhists' lives. The development of generosity means to promote all kinds of bodily, verbal, and mental giving. When one begins to give without self involved, one's heart opens. Traditionally it is believed that Buddhists gain merits by offering food and other necessities to those in need, all of which is "Dana" . When giving to the Maha Sangha this is actually represents giving to all Buddhist Monks and Nuns from the past, present and future including Lord Buddha who practice, preserve and teach the Dhamma. Kingly generosity means giving without any expectations in return. By supporting the Maha Sangha you are helping the wisdom of the Dhamma to continue to exist on the earth for future generations to benefit from. Whenever one offers food or financial assistance to the monks and nuns, it is not personal. You are offering this to the entire World Sangha. This is "Maha Sangha"Dana provides the four necessities for monks and nuns. They are Food, Clothing, Shelter, and Medicine. Dana can also be in the form of a donation to build a shelter or to finance the printing of all media to spread the Dhamma. Sometimes people participate in this activity by reserving a specific day in the month to offer the meal to resident or traveling monks and nuns. You can send a donation, offer a meal in person, or take members out from to a meal.
