About Me

Life began on December 7th, 1967 at Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was nearly a close call for myself, having decided that coming into the world was something that I would rather do feet first. With the umbilical cord wrapped around my neck, and no money to my name, the Good Lord decided my only lot in life would be the gift of music. Ye will be gifted in thy music, sayeth the Lord, But dont give up thy dayeth job. Thus forth, my musical journey had begun. I spent my childhood years in Mars, Pennsylvania, playing baseball, riding motorcycles and soaking up the sounds of my older brothers and sisters 8-Track collection. My brother was digging the sounds of Yes, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath. My sister, on the other hand, was gently swaying to the soothing sounds of Paul Simon and John Denver emanating from the stereo at the other end of the hall. My parents music was equally as influential, being the products of 1950s Rock and Roll and this meant that in our house, Elvis was King. During the early to mid- 1970s, the 1950s nostalgia craze was on the rise. Thanks to a then unknown film maker George Lucus and his hit film"American Graffiti. I wasted little time picking out songs from Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry on my brothers acoustic guitar. Whereas this was all fine and good, the real revelation had yet to occur. This revelation came upon me at the ripe old age of ten when I was first introduced to four lads from Liverpool. The Beatles stopped me dead in my tracks. From then on, I spent everyday practicing my English accent and learning to play along to Beatles records. Being a mini-mop top in the age of disco was a rather strange time for me. Oh to be young and naïve, I thought, as my fellow fifth graders asked me to play YMCA from the Village People on my guitar. I spent the next five years practicing every riff I could find from Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Doors and The Who.At this point having moved up to the electric guitar, I started playing in bands with some classmates. We played street fairs, parties and wherever else underage rockers could find a gig. My abilities as a lead guitarist were growing, as was my need to find a good lead vocalist to front these various bands. This, mostly out of necessity, lead to me becoming a lead vocalist as well as playing the guitar. It was also around this time, that I started to develop a serious knack for writing songs. I found it much more rewarding to create my own songs as opposed to copying someone elses. With the rise of the indie/college music scene, bands such as the Smithereens, XTC and The Jam to inspire me, I was finding my niche as a musician. My musical strength, not only on the guitar, but the bass as well was taking shape. In my twenties, I had dedicated my life to the stage and the studio honing my craft. In addition to my playing the guitar and bass, singing, and writing, I was now engineering and producing my own music. In closing, I can honestly say that I enjoy this as much now as I did when I first started all those years ago. After all, how many people can say that they created the soundtrack to their own lives?Love and Mercy, SA Myspace Backgrounds
