As a tiny infant Herman Gauche was left in a corn field where he was abdopted by aliens from outer space! It was in outer space that he learned the guitar and began composing his first songs under the patient tutelage of the aliens. As he grew older and his song writing developed, his xenoparents saw how Herman missed walking with his fellow Aerthlings by the songs that he would sing and the compassion that he showed for their ills, for it was true: Aerth was very beautiful and there was much evil done there by men and women to each other. So Herman was returned to the surface to play his songs for them. And even though he will never be allowed to stay with the aliens again, so from the sky do they keep a watchful eye on their beloved son. There is no need to be alarmed! ...they have been watching there a long, long time. Now there is a voice to sing and tell on Aerth how it is in the Heavens-to-Betsy.
