OR-I wish I met 'em..DUKE KAHANAMOKU & ELVIS PRESLEYIn 1967, irate race official Jock Semple tried forcibly to remove Kathrine Switzer from the then all-male Boston Marathon simply because she was a woman. Luckily for Switzer, the official was bounced out of the race instead by her boyfriend and she went on to finish. Switzer was inspired by the incident to create opportunities around the world for women in running and walking and has led over a million women to the starting line of fitness through her motivational talks and events she has created. Switzer is also the winner of the 1974 New York City Marathon and author of Running and Walking for Women Over 40 and the co-author of the just released 26.2: Marathon Stories. She will be appearing at the Inaugural Two Cities Marathon Half Marathon on November 9, 2008.Photo credit: Harry Trask for AP/Wide World Photo
