About Me

Out of the chaos and confusion of modern day Hip-Hop comes a focused and calming influence. Brihanu is a no-nonsense native Philadelphian MC who uses his socialist philosophy as the foundation for a potent and scathing critique of politics, social conditions and economics.Brihanu is the MC/front man for Junkyard Empire, the Twin Cities hottest band fusing together jazz, hip-hop, indie rock and progressive politics. Check Out Junkyard Empire at http://www.myspace.com/junkyardempire Brihanu is also one of the members of Biomimic Productions, a Hip-Hop Group/ Production company that uses innovative beats to showcase unparalleled lyricism. His self-produced Paradigm Poetry uses elements from African drums and classical samples to hardcore, head-nodding vintage Hip-Hop beats to exhibit Brihanus complicated multi-layered lyrics. Growing up in a strong musical family tradition, Hip-Hop influenced Brihanu's life from the beginning. However, as in all things, he became a student of music and ventured into classical, jazz, rock and the blues. Brihanu's message transcends the music due to his positive and uplifting lyrics. He was a public school teacher in Philadelphia and now teaches is St. Paul and his love for oppressed people worldwide comes through in his songs. Junkyard Empire's debut cd, "Reclaim Freedom" and follow-up EP, "Rise of the Wretched" represent a refreshing change to the drugs, guns, materialism and exploitation of women that is unfortunately too common in Hip-Hop today. This is our world, our time to change for the future/ the people are strugglin, we need a revolution/ As the earth revolves in these difficult times, we need some paradigm poetry to free the mind
