LIVE @ THE MEZZANINEWho is RamRock? Ramzell, also known as RamRock, is a gifted musical sponge. This producer, songwriter, vocalist, instrumentalist was born & primarily raised in San Francisco, Californias Fillmore District.
Ramzell has a strong musical background, for he comes from a musically talented family. His mother sings and plays various instruments. She was the only one who really strived to keep music alive in the family by encouraging Ramzell to play the piano at a young age. This helped him easily adapt to various other instruments. Although his guitar-playing father passed away when he was just 10 months old, he shines through Ramzell. His dad nicknamed Rock because of his ability to recognize rhythm as an infant. Soon later developed his own style of making music with his mouth, later termed beat boxing.
As a youth, he surprised his peers with his hip-hop vocals as well as his beat box interpretations. As he came of age, Ramzell performed for a wide range of audiences nationally and internationally, and his presence has been appreciated. Why? A true reflection of his roots, Ramzell delivers a style reminiscent of the soulful days before synthetic electronics took over the music industry. He has coined the term vibal music to describe his style because he feels his music fits into no current music genre. His music incorporates Hip Hop, R & B, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Reggae, Classical, Drum n Bass, Heavy Metal, and beyond. Ramzell has been a vocalist for Blaktroniks, a bay area group, with releases overseas, known for pushing the boundaries of all aspects of music.
Ramzell also states good music is good music, Ive always liked forms of music that most of my peers couldnt adapt to. He produced this six song demo on nothing but an analog 4-track recorder, bass, lead, and acoustic guitars, a drum machine, and a keyboard using a one take method. Although Ramzell has excelled in producing with MIDI equipment, he prefers the old analog sound.
The sound he refers to is inspired by greats such as Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder, Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, Roy Ayers, Donny Hathaway, Isleys, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beetles to name a few. Much like those artists, Ramzell does not want to be a one-hit wonder, but strives for longevity. I want everyone from ages 2 to 80 to be able to enjoy my music, says Ramzell. I try to make sure that my responsibility to my peers and my genuine love for music is evident in my lyrics. Currently Ramzell can be seen and heard performing in venues throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as well as nationally and internationally.demand me
