Talking Heads, The Decemberists, Leadbelly, Squeeze, Bad Religion, Public Enemy, Joel Plaskett Emergency, The New Pornographers, Joanna Newsom, of Montreal, Booker T and the MGs, k-os, Run DMC, Genesis, Nirvana, The Smiths, Regina Spektor, Protest The Hero, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, Sloan, Sarah Harmer, The Be Good Tanyas, Neko Case, Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, Smog, Pavement, Elliott Smith, The Fiery Furnaces, Arcade Fire, Ween, Readable Ink, Hope Your Shattered Envy - I could go on. The only bands I don't like are Lynard Skynard, Nickelback, and any of the extremely mainstream oriented pap that's aimed at only selling albums and playing in the background of some Wal-Mart... there's nothing worse than "safe" art. Oh, and that singer from Texting Mackenzie can suck an lemon.
The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Hard Core Logo, Kill Bill Vol. 1, Inherit The Wind, Double Happiness, Dance Me Outside, The Sweet Hereafter, Trainspotting... pretty much anything with a good, unique story. A lot of those European antiplot things I can't really appreciate - pretentious, post-modern stuff... why make movies then? Is there something wrong with touching and entertaining people? Don't get me wrong, there's some amazing films out there (and I prefer then to the tired Hollywood formula) like All About My Mother, Dom Durakov (House Of Fools), Trois Couleurs: Rouge, Bleu, et Blanc... but Bertolucci's The Dreamer's make me do just that. Daydream. Yeah, she's naked. We got it.
Simpsons, Family Guy, Six Feet Under, CBC's the Hour.
Shakespeare, Steinbeck, Marlowe, Atwood, Palahniuk, Welsh, Sedaris. I love bios. Sordid lives lived. Fantastic.
