THE KINGITES

About Me

THE KINGITES, in their debut album "FEATHERS OF PEACE", have recorded a dark brooding masterpiece. Recorded and mixed over 10 days in May/ June 2007 at York Street Studios, it combines superb conscious lyricism with over arching melody and an unsettling instrumental bed. These elements work together to push the listener to take in, and reflect upon the spoken word. The band are a great bunch of guys and their personalities, which can at times be combustible, have helped give depth to this record.

For band leader Hone, it is the culmination of 20 years work as a conscious mc. The vocalists recorded full guide vocals for three days before dropping in overdubs. Hone and EQ did great work together pairing up on each others songs. Rahx sang his melodies from the isolation booth apart from his harmonies with Jamie Leaf on "Hustlin". Sol"e" arrived on Thursday night and recorded a series of compelling unrehearsed live lyrical flows which helped shape "Hustlin". The arrangements are dominated by the multiple keyboard talents of Junior "JR" Paea, who, during live takes, often simultaneously played Yamaha, Fender Rhodes and B3 Hammond, with occasional flourishes on the grand piano. Daniel Harawira drives the rhythm on the drums with his signature stepped breaks, with Mike Forbes partnering him on bass. Mike made sure the bass amp shuddered from the upstairs room at York Street Studios. Band manager and lead guitarist Steve Forbes played lead guitar with nice use of scratch delay and punchy lead breaks. Jason Maze rounded out the full band sound with his percussion which added bite to the mix.
We are completing the artwork right now and will have the album out soon. Hones whanau, Leon Kipa has made some beautiful contemporary warrior figurines which will be incorporated into the album art. The band is signed to record label Moving Production. "FEATHERS OF PEACE" will be distributed through Rhythmethod Limited in NZ and it will be in all good record stores soon as well as up on digital retail sites with the help of Amplifier and its digital rights team. We have uploaded four samples of the album for you to listen to on your myspace player; "Notify the World", "Rampant", "Hustlin" and "lost angeles". We hope you enjoy the songs and get out and support Aotearoa roots music when the album hits the stores.
