What We are About
Hailing from Frederick, Oklahoma, “Toby Wayne & Distant Thunder†is quickly proving to be tenacious self starters. Writing and performing highly melodic compositions with emotionally intelligent lyrics and big catchy hooks, it’s evident that their inspiration comes from within. The band which began as a duo acoustic project featuring Toby Wayne and Kris James has grown into a solid song-oriented powerhouse.
Toby began playing guitar at age 2 and started writing and performing by age 17. Wayne was a rhythm guitarist and background vocalist for a band called Texoma in the late 90's. During this time he was able to play with many national acts and learn some of the ins and outs of the music biz.
The band features Toby Wayne on guitar and lead vocals, Bobby "Kit Killer"Jackson on drums/percussion, Matt " Tiny Hands" Jones playing lead guitar, Kris "Playboy" James on bass/vocals and Richie"Rich" Beagle on lead guitar. Inspired by and exhibiting a sound in the vein of artists such as Stoney Larue, Pat Green, Merle Haggard, John Mayer, and Tom Petty, the band has recently completed their first EP produced by engineer/ guitarist /singer/songwriter Travis Linville (Featured on Stoney Larue - Live at Billy Bobs, Jason Boland - Live at Billy Bob's, No Justice - Far From Everything).
Toby Wayne & Distant Thunder is dead serious in the quest to create awareness for their project. The band seems destined for independent success. They love to play, they love to write songs and they love to perform for fans. Most importantly, they love to be a part of a very new and unique brand of country music. Their infectious, catchy lyrics and driving grooves already have country music fans waking up next to “Fat Chicks/or Guysâ€!!
