"To say 'There can be no God, and I know that's the case' falls apart on the altar of logical debate---and really, I think, ought to be considered as its own form of blind faith."
-Francis Collins, former head of the Human Genome Project"Now hold up! he got sold out like it was eBay." -KJ52"It's like we don't believe in God cause we're living in sin." -2Pac "What's a man to do but kneel down and pray: 'LORD, forgive me!'" -Ja Rule "Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends."John 15:13 "Don't trust your weakness." -Memento"Man I got Jesus; I don't need Dr. Phil." -KJ52
The focus of authentic Christianity should not be on church and rituals. Our focus should not be on sin. We should instead focus on God and our relationship with Him. We should focus on His love for us; everything else will fall into place. To my fellow Christians: be careful on how you tell others about Jesus. There is a right way, and there is a wrong way. I'm a Christian. You may not be one, and that's okay. I have nothing against you. Especially if you care about these issues and are open-minded. You may be an atheist who has thought things through, and found that the arguments against the existence of God are compelling. I welcome the discussion of such arguments. It doesn't matter where these arguments come from---I'm well acquainted with most of them and I promise to respond to each one you send me. If on the other hand you simply do not care about whether or not God exists, or what the implications would be in either case, then I really do not know how to respond. I cannot understand why this topic wouldn't be important to you.
Questions to ask yourself:
1. When it comes to your beliefs, are you consistent? Have you actually thought things through down to their implications? For example, if you believe that morality is relative, you have to acknowledge that there is no real foundation to the term "inalienable rights," i.e. rights that go beyond the power of government. You can take this further and examine its problematic implications, but if you believe these premises, at least you're being consistent.
2. Are you self-righteous? Do you believe that all ethical issues have obvious answers? This is a trait that is shared among (some) religious fundamentalists as well as (some) atheists. Granted, there are certain ethical issues that have obvious answers, e.g. we know that the torture of innocent children is bad. However, there are many others that are not so black and white. A large part of ethics and philosophy is incredibly difficult. You need to acknowledge this before you can have an open-minded and open-hearted discussion with someone about some of the really important questions in life.
"I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about him: I?m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don?t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic ? on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg ? or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon and you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronising about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." From C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity-----------------
i like teasing paranoid cats. you know........ climbing onto the roof and then throwing stuff near or at them. and then there is the pink-nosed princess (her pic is ..) whom i would never dream of bothering. i guess how i treat cats is how i treat people around me. "I want money in large amounts, my garage full of cars that bounce." -2PacI'm very religious. And I'm very ambitious. And I try to practice what I preach. I think this life is an opportunity to do some real good things ...... if u're afraid to risk anything, don't forget that u could just as easily die while not taking a risk. Christ said those that try to save their lives will lose it... and those that lose their lives (for Christ's sake) will save it. I won't lie, I'm still trying to figure it out.....
