My introduction to singing in in front of an audience came when at age 13 I started doing musical theatre. My interest in that waned as I moved away from the stage as a performer and started working as a stage technician. About the same time I started playing guitar but I wasn't serious about it till my second year of college, and even then was only playing lead backing up a friend who would perform his own songs at local open mic nights. It didn't take long, though, for the desire to perform on my own to really set in. I started to develop my skills as a rhythm player and vocalist. By the time I left college I had estabished mysef in the local music scene as a solo performer, lead guitarist, part-time roadie, and booking agent for the university, which also gave me the opportunity to support the local and regional music community in a more administrative role. I played with a local southern rock/country band, was an open mic regular, hosted open mics of my own and sat in with local bands, and did some gigging on my own and with other solo artists. Now I'm living in Raleigh, NC and haven't had much time for playing music, but I work as a stage technician so I get my fill of it being on the road crew. I'm hoping to find a good band soon and start playing again. My main goal right now, though, is to work on original material. The music scene I was playing in wasn't always welcoming to original material and most crowds just wanted party music they could drink to and sing along with. But I was never content with that, and I haven't put enough effort into my own work. I'm doing my best to change that, and I'm excited about pushing myself to really see what I might be capable of musically.
