About Me

Piá is one of the forerunners of the Hip-Hop Movement in Rio Grande do Sul Brazil. In 1984 he has started a Break Dance group as well as his contact with Rap. In 1989, he created (his first crew) Lords and they began doing presentations in the outskirts of Porto Alegre. They soon were invited to play in the main night clubs of the city. With this (crew) he records in 1995 O Homem Errado an allusion related to the story of Julio Cesar who was killed mistakenly by the police after having an epileptic attack near the place of a crime. In this same year he participates in the collection Outros Sons from Restinga, and starts his activities as a communicator presenting the Radio show Projeto Rap POA at Ipanema radio station. This project gives a great impulse to the movement being Piá the first rapper in the state to conduct his own radio show. In 1996, he produces the first Hip Hop collection of the state, bringing together thirteen groups in Porto Alegre with the sponsorship of the City Hall. In this same year he launches his first solo record A Grande Caminhada with Nosso Som records. Piá becomes well known in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and receives many invitations to do shows in both important cities. In 1997 he launches the independent record COISA DU DEMO and performs intensively as a cultural promoter in various events. Piá started a hip-hop workshop for juvenile delinquents at FEBEM in 1998. He also records with the group Cowboys Espirituias (Julio Reny, Frank Jorge and Márcio Petracco) the song Jovem Cowboy in which he used a mixture of bombo leguero( Drums from traditional South Brazilian music) with guitars (From the Country music) and the funk beat. This song receives an international award form the CMT Country Music television, Miami/USA as the best Latin American newcomer. In the same year, Piá worked on a TV show called Folharada on Bandeirantes television, where he presented a part of the show about (hip hop) and skate. A new record was launched in 2000, Um Pouco Sobre Todos Nós, with Trama records. In this album he showed great versatility as a composer and producer. In 2001 Piá is awarded for The Best Rap Record with the Açorianos prize. He also opens the Centro Cultural Redenção where he promotes musical shows workshops of DJ, break dance, capoeira , graffiti and art exhibitions. In 2002, Piá starts a new daily radio show Light Grooves in which he shows several tendencies of the black music, on Ipamema radio. He opens spaces for samba-rock and samba-soul where he mixes Brazilian music with American black music. This radio show is extremely original with strong swing and pleasant tunes. Nowadays Piá is much required to produce and conduct events. The plus on his work is his art of handling with vinyl records using the many records of his personal collection that include some rarities and a variety hardly found in Brazil. His performance as a DJ has a total interaction with the public and this is not to be missed by those who like good music. Piá has recently performed as a DJ in some hip-hop and black music events in the Los Angeles - USA.
