Judy Saiya
More and more people are finding out about Judy Saiya. Saiya's songs are a mix of rock, pop and 70's roots music. Her voice is quite recognizable with traces of her earlier influences, Stevie Nicks and Janis Joplin present. Fans of Sheryl Crow and Liz Phair might give her a listen! She has an aggressive way with a guitar and her live performances are always recruiting new fans.
Judy was introduced to jazz and pop music by her Dad who played saxophone. She began playing guitar, and writing songs early on. Later female fronted bands such as Fleetwood Mac and The Pretenders influenced her as she focused more on songwriting and performing She played in various bands throughout high school and later put together the Judy Saiya Group.
Saiya became a regular on the NYC club scene with her band and as part of an acoustic duo. She recorded a CD titled, "Forget Last Night" with her guitar player, band mate John Surich and producer John Patterson. At the time Patterson was running "Studio E" in Garfield NJ. The recording facility was owned and operated by Dave Derr, who later went on to establish Empirical Labs, the designer of the Distressor Audio Compressor . Derr took an interest in Saiya's career as well and continued recording her music. Saiya and Surich played throughout the NJ and NY area in support of their CD. The Judy Saiya Group appeared in both ASCAP'S "Best Kept Secrets" showcase at NY's CBGB's , and Pop Songwriters workshop. They worked steadily in NY performing and expanding their catalog of material.
Saiya later began recording with the NJ based band "New World Spirits" . Some of these songs are featured on her CD titled, "View," The disc also included songs produced by, Studio 4's- Phil Nicolo, (Aerosmith, Train) D & D Recording's, David Carpenter and singer/songwriter John Monnecka. Saiya performed extensively with Monnecka around NJ and the two songwriters built an enthusiastic following.
Saiya's music has crossover appeal. She enjoys many musical styles which is apparent in her work. . She has the uncanny ability to resemble some of the artists she covers so well that it astounds audiences. When she breaks into her own songs with even more intensity, they are hooked. Her performances with John Monnecka, (a vocal powerhouse in his own right) are a fun and exciting experience."View" is a dynamic record featuring straight ahead rockers and compelling acoustic ballads. She continues to use her straight forward lyrical approach as she did on "Forget Last Night". Fans of that album should enjoy this one as well.
