About Me

CALLE SATURNALIA is my effort to create what I haven´t been able to communicate with other people. Sounds I can only achieve when I create them all by myself. One of those projects that are not restricted by a genre or a movement... just a personal analysis. Its aim is to reflect everything that influences me... to make it interact... from artists to places and situations... every influence has its role here. Its a way to state my thoughts and ideas.... no justification needed. For the last 4 years, the music I have made under this name (even though there was no name for a long time) has gradually grown in me. Now I make it public.... It just feels like the right time to do it. Lets share what goes through CALLE SATURNALIA.Carlos Hurtado started playing drums since he was a kid. He played with R.A.Z.A., a local hardcore band (later to become one of the best local punk-rock bands). As soon as he turned 18, one year before finishing high school, he dropped out and went to Australia where he enrolled at university to study Popular Music Performance. In the next two and a half years he completed a Bachelor Degree of Arts (Popular Music and Performance) at the University of New England. During this time he developed a great interest in computer music. Gradually he started spending more time with virtual drum machines and synthesizers than with the acoustic drum kit and suddenly realized that he was no longer a full-time drummer, he was also a programmer. A few months after finishing the Degree he enrolled the Electronic Music Production course at the SAE International Technology College (Sydney). After he finished the course, he decided it was time to go back to Colombia and start his career from the place he felt was home. A few months after his arrival in Colombia, Carlos joined a local reggae-dub band called NAWAL. He created an electronic percussion set-up with all the hardware he had brought with him from Australia and started adding new electronic textures to NAWAL´s music. Six months later, he began to work with Tato Lopera, a well-known electronic musician and producer. Carlos started making music, sound design and engineering for advertising at Tato´s studio. He also became a member of Supervelcro, Tato´s new project. On 2005 Carlos won the Levis Tour Electronic Music Production contest called Road to Las Vegas. He participated with his track Un Joker en el Poker. He was the winner of the experimental category after applying with more than 150 producers from Colombia and Ecuador. He also represented Colombia at the Red Bull Music Academy 2005, Seattle, which was a real eye opener experience. Carlos was one of the sixty producers chosen to participate in Seattle of the thousands that applied from all over the world. At the moment Carlos is spending most of his time working with NAWAL. At the same time he is remixing and collaborating with various local projects such as Diva Gash, Delux Club and Estados Alterados. He is also writing music for short films and producing other artists. In his spare time he is working on his own project, CALLE SATURNALIA, which is mainly his computer, his machines, a few voices and himself. CALLE SATURNALIA had its first live performance in Colombia when it opened LADYTRON´s concert in Bogotá. More dates coming soon...
