My name is Brad Howland and I'm a graphic artist living on a sleepy little isle between James Island and Folly Beach, just outside of Charleston, SC. I work from my home office for Blue Moon Graphics creating graphics for resortwear, T-shirts and just about anything else you can screenprint. I also do freelance work other than screenprinted goods as well when I have time and the work is available. My work is sold in gift shops, hotels, resorts, dive shops and surf shops in Hawaii, Guam, the Florida Keys, The Turks and Caicos, Curacao, the US Virgin Islands, The Antilles, The Bahamas and as far north as Martha's Vineyard and The Hamptons as well as many other non-coastal resort areas within the US. Nautical themes, diving, surfing and fishing make up the bulk of my workload for the resortwear industry along wth logos/corp I.D., CD covers, magazine covers, flyers, product labels and other miscellaneous graphics making up the freelance side of my workload. I can say with complete honesty that I love my job! (most of the time.)
When I'm not busy with graphics and I can un-glue my tired eyes from the monitor I can usually be found out in the backyard with a chainsaw, chisels and mallet and other various woodcarving implements hacking out some nice, island style Tikis as well as other Oceanic or otherwise nautical or tropical style woodcarvings. I have recently become fascinated with the arts and culture of Oceana--Polynesia, Micronesia and Melanesia in the South Pacific, including New Guinea, New Zealand, the Cook Islands, the Marquesan Islands, Tonga and Hawaii. As my interest grows, so does my desire to carve or otherwise create reproductions of more traditional styles of Oceanic artifacts, masks, statues, weapons, etc.I also enjoy playing guitar and ocassionally writing a tune or two just for kicks--usually of a humorus nature. I also have a CD with 6 original tunes on it, somewhere.Occasionally, I'll pick up the paintbrushes and get back to old-school art methods--as opposed to the graphic arts. Most of my paintings are done on the glass panes of old, discarded windows, old surfboards, wood panels or anything else that might jump in front of my paintbrush. And when work is done and the surf's up--that's where I'll be. And if the surf's up and the work is not done, you can probably still find me there. Work can get done anytime of the day or night but you can only surf when there is surf. And being on the water at sunrise when the waves are like glass and are anywhere between waist to head high--indescribable--no better way to start a day!I also enjoy walking or biking on the beach with my wife,Alicia and our dog Zoot, cooking/grilling out, good wine (even some bad ones!), rum, champagne--all that good stuff. One must have a good balance of vices with his virtues, right? If you have a project you need taken care of or just want to say, "hi" -drop me a line!
