Hailing from the birthplace of modern metal – San Francisco – The Aftermath have set out to achieve one goal: to create and play the music they love. Featuring former members of First Blood, Gunmetal Grey, SEED, and Hailthetragedy, The Aftermath revels in the attitude that puts musicianship and integrity ahead of fashion and trends. In the heyday of metal, bands like Metallica, Pantera, Iron Maiden and At The Gates ruled their respective genres by making honest music that could be at once beautiful and brutal.
After playing in the celebrated, but short-lived Bay Area metal band, Gunmetal Grey, lead guitarist Brandon Borgel and drummer Brandon Thomas came together and wrote nearly a dozen songs with bassist Chase Adams, deriving elements and inspiration from classic metal. Still looking for that explosive frontman, the band found Alex Shantz, a young and talented vocalist that brought new ideas, dark lyrics and a fresh perspective to the writing process.
In the fall of 2008, only weeks after Shantz joined the band, they entered Oakland’s Castle Ultimate Studios to record their debut EP …And The Sea Will Drown Us. Four songs were furiously recorded with engineer Zack Ohren in only three days, and the result was an urgent and energetic, yet polished debut album. Anthemic, raw vocals transcend the explosive dual guitar riffing. Intricate song dynamics give way to epic interludes and dazzling solos that hearken back to the days of Schenker and Hammett.
The last vital piece of the puzzle was found shortly after the EP was recorded as guitarist Ramon Fermin stepped in to be the intrical second half of the band’s twin guitar assault.
Coming out with all guns blazing, The Aftermath have set their sights on playing the music they love, bringing unyielding energy to their live shows and proving that Bay Area metal is alive and well. Comprised of both veterans and newcomers to the Bay Area scene, The Aftermath has quickly gained momentum and is poised for a huge breakout in 2009.
