About Me

Paul Byrne is a freelance drummer/percussionist based just outside of Dublin, Ireland. Paul has been playing drums for over 20 years now, starting his musical adventures with the famous Artane Boys Band (Now known as the Artane School of Music. Damn you womens equality!). After graduating from Artane, Paul spent 2 years studying under the watchful eye of the late, great John Wadham. From there he started playing in the local Dublin Jazz scene, playing venues like JJ Smyths, Renards, The International Bar, The Globe/Ri Ra to name but a few.
He then discovered the fact that he'd never make any decent money out of Jazz cause he wasn't that good at it, so started taking excursions into the rest of the musical world. This is where things started to get interesting and continue to be very interesting up to the present day...
Paul is well known for his steady groove, his ability to remain tight with a click track and the ability to read pretty much anything that's thrown at him. He is also 1st call(sometimes 2nd, 3rd and all the way up to 10th) for a lot of bands, musical directors and producers.
Paul has played and jammed with a lot of groups/musicians over the last 20 years.
These include : Leslie Dowdall, Finbar Wright, The Irish/Celtic Tenors, RTE Concert Orchestra, Ulster Orchestra, Phil Coulter, The Chieftans, Rain, elaine k, The Carnival Saloon, Rafter, Duke Special(In a previous life), Dr. Miller, Jack L, Mundy, Rodrigo y Gabriela, The Cafe Orchestra, Duncan Maitland, Steve Coleman, Jools Holland, Carlos Nunez, Galldubh, Sharon Shannon, Paddy Keenan, Kila, Stocktons Wing, Delos, Lia Luchra, Rua, Aoife Ni Fhearraig, Liam O'Connor, Tommy Fleming, The Blues Brothers Showband, Bob Downe, Bob Wooton, The Wilders and Spring Break.
Paul is currently playing with : Clannad, Moya Brennan, Camille O'Sullivan, These Charming Men, The Charmed, The Esssential Big Band, Bagatelle, Jack Samson, Cormac Kenevey and Suzanne Savage.
