"If I only had a dollar, for every song I've sung. And every time I've had to play while people sat there drunk. You know, Id catch the next train back to where I live."
I've been everywhere man, I've been everywhere. And played there too in one incarnation or another: Auburn, Jacksonville, Gadsden, Huntsville, Dallas Deep Ellum.
Right now, I'm playing in Catfish Road again, check the link below. Trying to play, write and record new material this summer and working on projects that will be fully disclosed at a later time. If you live in Gadsden, keep an eye out because we'll be playing somewhere.
I was playing in a band back in the 90s. We went to an open mic thing at a local place pretty regularly and played mostly original songs. One night when we were there, there was also a guy there who played for a local cover band that pretty much had a gig every night to packed places. We got off stage and he said, "Why don't you guys play stuff people know?" I don't remember what my answer was then but here's my answer now: I'm not doing this because I want to party. I'm not doing this because I want other people to have fun. I'm doing this because I have something to say. It doesn't matter to me if other people like it or not. Sometimes they do like it. If I've got something to say, how am I supposed to say it playing "Gimme Three Steps" every night? I'd rather not play at all if that's how I have to do it.
For the hardcore gear junkies: I currently play Ovation, Fender and Yamaha acoustics, Gibson electrics and Marshall amps. I've used Peavey and Fender amps in the past. I record on a TASCAM digital 8 track that I'm still learning to use and I also use a freeware program called Audacity to process my recordings with effects and all that fun stuff. Check it out!.
Just a note about that song Mind's Eye up there: It's a rehearsal recording of the first time it was ever practiced by the band I was playing in at the time. So it's a bit rough. I put it up because playing really loud electric is what I actually do. Acoustic has always been kind of a side project. Anyway, I didn't write the song, my drummer and someone else wrote it just in case they stumble onto this site, they won't think I'm claiming it as my own....I'm not. That's Kevin Watts on drums, Clay Yancey on bass and backing vocals, and me on guitar and vocals.
