-Artist Statement- Sarah Aponte "Standing in front of an empty canvas, is like my life-bare. The empty canvas my soul, my Being in it pure and unexpressed state. Upon the silent background of my Being is projected the details of my life-feeling, emotions, ideas, ambitions. These are projected onto my Being, like a film is projected onto a pure white screen. While painting, I place my emotions on the canvas and they are expressed as shapes and forms. Impulses of my inner self give the elements direction and the exhilaration created is a part of the process makes me want to create again."My interest of course is art.I like free thinkers and watching art evolve.I like helping people I believe in good Karma and enjoy the rush of discovery. There is a power in the inner self that has a silent voice.My passion is painting and helping people.I usually paint at night and I'm pretty sloppy I really get into my work.My art is raw it's in your face and real.Most of my clothing has paint on it except for a few dresses I wear to exhibits. I like experimenting with black and white photographs. To me my work is musical, jazzy, abstract, graffiti and splat. I guess that's the way I would describe myself or how I live my life. I've been painting since the age of six.It's a great therepy for me and helps me understand life on a different level.I found a home in art it wraps itself around me and gives me joy. When I paint I feel distant from the world and one with the universe. Most of all I feel strong. Painting is my own language. It can be shocking and gentle at the same time.It awakens my senses and takes me into a world I want to be in. It's like unwrapping a box and finding objects inside trying to make sense out of it. But I think broken objects can be interesting it gives personality. I love working one-on-one with the canvas. The canvas being silent and awakening the spirit using shapes and forms.It's like playing in a field of all possiblities and working with all of the elements. I'm so lucky to be connected and aware of who I am and feeling the energy around me. And being able to swim in creative energy. And I'm compelled to express that. My life's had it's ups and downs but somehow I found peace, love and success. ( It's because I know so little is why I'm so good)Spirit lifts us above our individual fallibility, and doing that teaches the deepest most valuable lessons.I love rainy days, lightning, horror movies, dancing, children,walking, feeding ducks, fishing,cooking,yoga, rollerblading, camping,road trips,sittin on the beach, roasting marshmellows, gardening,painting, travel and doing things spur of the moment. I enjoy being cozy at home or in the company of good friends.
