About Me

Outgoing and Carefree...I let very little bother me (except my passion for education, equity, and the environment). There are very few things that I don't enjoy and quite the list (longer than what's on the left here) of what I do. I'm in Syracuse (again) working on yet another degree. Though I'm not a fan of the long-lasting winter up here, I have decided to make the best of it and invested in some ice skates (though they're not getting much use)!
I have a passion for environmental issues and enjoy being outdoors - best time outdoors was kayaking and camping on the Guadalupe River in TX in 2004 - second best would have to be Yellowstone Nat'l Park at age 9.
These links are what light my fire...
Also, Please visit and learn more about the genocide occuring as you read this, in Darfur. SAVE DARFUR Yes, the genocide is STILL happening... please email, call, and/or write your senators/representatives.
Polar Bears risk extinction due to lack of ice for hunting.
Seems the Polar bears are potentially turning to canibalism as a means of survival. Polar bears have killed other polar bears before, but in the context of mating and assertion of power, not in the quest for food. Read this article to learn a little more... Are Polar Bears Starting to Eat Each Other?
=============================
Want to know more - read the blogs - you'll know more about me than you might care to =) I also post some things on livejournal.

My Interests

Running; guitars; singing anywhere and everywhere; writing; contributing to society; non-profit organizations; fighting for equity issues; hanging out with buds; college football; sound of the ocean, laughter, horses hooves, baseball cleats on cement, and leaves crunching under foot; little kids, especially my niece and nephew; family; animals - especially horses, chimpanzees, and polar bears (nanuk); an evening without homework; homemade meals; smiling; Adam Sandler movies; Texas; Traveling - someday to Ireland and Australia; sleeping in; sand under my feet; hiking; tinkering with my car (someday with a garage of my own again I'll get back to this); snuggling; live hockey games; getting all dressed up; guinness; white chocolate mocha... mmm... definitely the latter.

I'd like to meet:

People who are fun, outgoing, energetic, empathic, and interesting. If you aren't a people person, we likely wouldn't click: no offense. And I'd love to reconnect with old classmates!

And just because they are sooo adorable - nanuk(s). Don't think I'd like to "meet" them, well, maybe a newborn one! =) For now, Thorndike will do (my stuffed polar bear that my grams gave me when I was 9).

If you don't know me in the real world, drop me a line if you want to be added to my "friends" list - I generally won't add anyone unless they mail me first.

Music:

Just about everything... literally - Sinatra, Enya, Beach Boys, U2, DMB, Miranda Lambert, Disturbed, Beastie Boys, Ani, Jack Johnson, Ryan Adams, Damien Rice, Celtic tunes, oldies (Big Bopper, Temptations, etc), Ella Fitzgerald (and similar genre)...the list goes on. My two favorite genres are country and rock (odd mix).
I'm really digging Benjamin Costello - a Central NY musician - undiscovered by a label - as of yet... but in due time, it shall happen... I mean, come on now - listen to it Benjamin's music
I also recommend Ciaran Flynn , an Irish singer/songwriter.
Here's Ciaran Flynn and his BEAUTIFUL song "Another Sleepless Night (in May)" Please take a listen.

Here's Benjamin Costello's version of Fields of Gold...you might want the volume up.

Here's his version of Cannonball ;)

Movies:

All time fav now is possibly The Fountain, after Top Gun having that ranking since at least high school... enjoy action movies and comedies best of all. Braveheart, The Princess Bride, Fever Pitch (hello, get to re-live the best season EVER), Runaway Bride, The Wizard of Oz, Ten Commandments (worth it just to hear Yul Brynner say MOsES! lol) Many others... Stardust is a movie that is very much worth seeing...

Television:

Ok, TV watching has been limited lately. I enjoy Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Grey's Anatomy, Who's Line is it Anyway, Actor's Studio, Friends reruns, and Football (capitalized because it's important!). If those are on and I'm near a TV with time (and interest), I'll watch.

Books:

Current book: Textbooks - actually not as "bad" as it might sound.

Must read for animal lovers: Zamba: The greatest lion that ever lived by Ralph Helfer

Other favorites include: "Midsummer's Night Dream" - my fav of William's writings!
"A Dog Year" - about a man and his journey with his two yellow labs and border collies.
"Celestine Prophesy" - Super cool book that will likely having you looking at life, nature, and human interaction with a whole new perspective.
"Tuesdays with Morrie" - about coping with death of a dying friend.
"Lord of the Rings" - GREAT... so much better than the movies, which were very well done
"Harry Potter" (any of the six) - not just for kids - I'm sure someone you know has a copy...

Heroes:

My grandmother - she was an amazing influence and showed me the value of looking out for the other person.

So, Mr. Bat really wasn't as large as I thought he was. Al from the Critter place came and captured him alive. Since Mr. Bat played nice he didn't have to be killed in order to be tested for rabies. H...
