Urban soundwave is made up of two Djs; Arron B and Utrinque.
We have both grown up together listening to various genres of music, but first heard jungle whilst at secondary school on a tape that a friend had. It was like nothing we had ever heard before, but being fourteen at the time, our only outlet for this music were the pirate stations and bootleg mixtapes we would buy off a bloke with a suitcase near our local market. Whilst our older mates were going out to raves and hearing this music at its best, we were going to our nearest record shop to listen to tunes and collect flyers to cover our school books.
As we grew up, a new style of dance music was emerging on the pirates- Garage, with its big basslines and catchy vocals, we were hooked and being a bit older, we were able to go out and listen to it at events such as Twice as nice, Pure silk and Sun city. It was going to these raves and witnessing Djs like Karl "tuff enuff' Brown, Timmi Magic and Masterstepz that made us realize that dj'ing is what we wanted to do and soon after, Utrinque managed to talk his dad into buying him a pair of Soundlabs.
So, we had the decks and some records we borrowed off a mate, how hard could this dj thing be? ....Very, but after a few months (and many dodgy mixes!) our skills were improving and we began playing at house parties and making tapes for our friends.
After a few years of mixing and raving, the garage sound we had loved started to change, to such an extent that we stopped buying records- What were we going to do.....?
It was soon after that we heard an advert for an oldskool rave at Camden palace called Moondance. Seeing as we had been to so many garage raves, we figured that this would be something a bit different...and it was... Aswell as hearing all the old jungle tunes that we had listened to when we were young, Dj Zinc played a DnB set, we were blown away and both walked out of there grinning from ear to ear.
Now that we had seen what jungle had evolved into, we could'nt get enough of it and so we got on the net to find out when the next DnB event was, it turned out to be Breakin science at The Rex. It was a great night, hearing a range of Djs playing DnB really opened our eyes to the spectrum of sounds this type of music has to offer and we both knew that this music was going to become a big part of our lives.
We have been mixing DnB for the past several years, from liquid to jump up and have had regular shows on internet radio's Love2radio.com, drumnbassworldwide.com and also on Edge 99.7FM.
With the amount of quality djs and producers, aswell as up and coming artists, we believe that we can assist in maintaining Drum & Bass as one of the biggest genres of dance music in the world.
