Mufulira, Zambia has a population of 152,944. Life expectancy in Zambia is 45 years. Malnutrition and Aids claimed 89,000 lives in 2003. Many children become orphans because of this. Fortunately, there is a hope...
And it is found in the Green Forest School and Orphanage. Martha Bwalya is the director and principal of the Green Forest School and Orphanage and has lived in Mufulira, Zambia for over 10 years working with hundreds of children who have lost everything including their families.
However, as more children join the School, more funds are needed. These needs include funding for the school, clothing, school uniforms and food. With your help, children are clothed, fed and taken care of by the lovely staff at Green Forest School.
Martha Bwalya is the founder of the Green Forest School and Orphanage. She is a 56 year old African teacher who has lived in Zambia all her life. Martha has adopted two sons, now ages eleven and thirteen, and has had them since their parents died of aids when they were seven months, and two years old.
Martha holds a teachers certificate, and in the biggest room in her house, approximately 10 x 16ft, currently runs two school classes a day; one in the morning, and one in the evening. All the children, ages 4-7 meet in this classroom for teachings in the English language and basic education. Unfortunately, very few educated people stay in Africa, because the wage is so low.
Marthas hope is to create an orphanage out of her school in her home city, Mufulira, Zambia, and be able to house 30 kids, as she raises them and educates them. Hopefully, later on down the road these children will have the opportunity to adopt orphans. If thirty of these children each adopt two orphans that is sixty children given hope!
