About Me

Ok so a little bit about myself... First off my name is Jason, I do enjoy making jewelry . and fine art i.e. painting and drawing. I have shops on the site etsy.com for both, and am a member of the Men of Etsy and Etsy Wedding Street teams.
I have been making things for as long as I can remember. I took a number of art classes in high school including two courses of Advanced Placement art. I took so many art classes that I had to make one up to keep taking art. They called it "independent study" lol and I was the only student.
It was in high school that I first became interested in metals. I had a teacher named William Rogers who was also a blacksmith. He instructed me in 3-D arts, teaching me mostly about making pottery and also gave me a couple of lessons in forging and basic casting. When I went to college for art at VCU, I further developed my skills taking both metal smithing and jewelry classes. I only completed one year there and moved back to my hometown to be with my sweetheart Amanda, whom I adore.

When I first moved back to Blacksburg, we settled into a small apartment and started working in a call center. I wanted to get back into the metal smithing but did not have much money for the tools and materials that it required. So I started making chainmaille because it required few tools, and I could do it at work. ;) I completed a shirt, a vest and several smaller items, and found I could also make copper and cheap chain bracelets. The money made from selling those went into buying other supplies and eventually I moved to working with silver only.
We have now purchased a house together and I have moved to only having to work part time. My jewelry business is picking up, and I recently attained a business license, so it's all legit.
As I stated above I have two shops on Etsy one for my jewelry and one for art . Both myself and my fiance make fine arts, and would love to be able to make a living at it.
My current part time job is for a university, and this summer I'm taking a painting class and a jewelry class. And the best part is that they are both free! I can't believe I'm finally going back to school, but I'm just glad to have projects, and maybe just maybe I can sell some art. XD Anyway I just wanted to say a few words about myself and I think I have accomplished that.
