The Dead Abigails

About Me

MySpace Icons
The Dead Abigails formed in the summer of 2001 when Carl Fidler (vocals) returned from France and met Jason Whatley (keys) and Glenn Moorhouse (guitar). Randall Stafford (kit) had conveniently arrived back from Melbourne and Corey Gilham (bass) was living in Hobart and waiting for a reason to come home. Their combined musical tastes covered a huge spectrum of pop music, from Indie Pop to Cock Rock, House and Reggae, and gave birth to a unique blend of Pop infused Rock! The sound was infectious and soon spread to the ears of suits on both a national and international level resulting in the band signing with local and international management.
Taking their live show throughout Tasmania, Victoria, S.A. and N.S.W., their touring culminated in a whirlwind two weeks in the U.K. playing to 30 000 plus audiences at Wiltshire Festival and in the shadows of Ripley Castle in the north of England.
In the three short years since forming they had received numerous accolades including placing second in the National Campus Band Competition for 2001, 2002 ALMA Award winners for best live band TAS, Oz Music Ambassadors, and Triple JJJ Unearthed in 2003. 2003 also saw the release of their much anticipated debut EP, CODE.
The boys have supported many great Australian bands such as The Whitlams, The Superjesus, Grinspoon, Thirsty Merc,, Kisschasey, and most recently they supported INXS on the Tassi leg of their world tour.
In 2006, the Abigails released their self titled DVD/CD. And then it was over.
Jason had long gone to pursue a Philosophy degree. Randall moved to London to spin tunes. Glenn and Cos formed The Dog Line, an intense rock act described as Chainsaw Pop. (myspace.com/thedogline) Carl kicked back and with Glenn as MD and Cos on bass, of course, they created Mayfield, a Curtis Mayfield inspired love affair with Soul, Breaks, Motown, House, and anything else funky they can squeeze in. (myspace.com/mayfieldsoul). Carl also dabbled in a side project of delicious danceables with his Club Electro outfit Hicksville. (myspace.com/hicksvillesouth)
Then Randall came back...
